Artisan Spirits LLC dba Pinckney Bend Distilling is an American Distilling company based out of New Haven, Missouri. Founded in 2011,[1] three friends with a passion for home brewing and entrepreneurship were in the early onset of the Craft Distilling boom. Founded on Gin, the company has expanded to be sold in multiple states with products in the Gin, Vodka, Whiskey, Canned Cocktail & mixers.
The distillery has been heralded as one of the few craft distilleries working to bring back heirloom corn and crop diversity.[2][3]
History
[edit]Pinckney Bend Distillery was named for the Pinckney Bend, a naturally occuring navigation hazard on the Missouri River. They take their name from a diary note of Lewis and Clark that mentions purchasing whiskey near Pinckney (Charette Village) for eight dollars for two gallons.[4] A devastating flood in 1824 did away with the small town of Pinckney and the river both natural and man-made course corrections, leaving the new New Haven, MO on the other side of the river.[5][6]
The distillery was built out from the old Leader Publishing Company building in downtown New Haven by Ralph Haynes, Tom Anderson & Jerome Meyer. In 2019 Keith Meyer and Tara Steffens joined as managing partners.[7]
The company has won numerous awards for their products and have been featured on many best of lists. They focus on corn based products and use Heirloom and Historical types of corn.[8][9] All hand made on a small scale, Pinckney Bend Distillery prides itself on a craft approach, honoring those that came before.[10]
