Raja Asad Khalid began his career in journalism after earning a Master’s degree in Mass Communication from a university in Karachi, Pakistan. His career spans notable outlets such as Sama TV, Daily Express, and Voice of South Asia USA. He also served as Resident Editor for Daily Jammu Kashmir and as a reporter for Jammu Kashmir TV.

Chinar Super League

[edit]

In 2016, Raja Asad Khalid founded the Chinar Super League, a community cricket initiative originally launched to engage the Kashmiri diaspora. Over the years, it has evolved into a major regional event in the UAE, combining cricket with environmental and cultural activism.

The 7th season of the CSL launched in 2025 in Sharjah, UAE. The league featured 16 teams and hosted a grand kit launch ceremony at the Pakistan Consulate Hall, attended by dignitaries and community leaders.[1] The final match crowned FMTK as champions of Season 7.[citation needed]

The CSL has promoted causes such as tree planting, marine cleanup, and plastic-free awareness in line with the UAE's Zero Carbon Mission. Raja Asad led a symbolic 10,300 km trophy tour across five cities — Dubai, Srinagar, Muzaffarabad, Islamabad, and New Delhi — to spread messages of peace and sustainability.[citation needed]

Previous editions have also seen major success. The 6th season in 2024 was praised for its wide participation and community engagement.[2] In 2022, the 4th edition featured 24 teams and was covered by several regional media outlets.[3][4] The tournament has also been recognized for its role in bringing divided communities together through sport.[5]

Community Leadership

[edit]

Raja Asad Khalid has long been involved in volunteer efforts throughout the UAE. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he worked closely with the Dubai Police and Pakistan Association Dubai (PAD) to organize food drives, medical support, and the repatriation of over 460 stranded Pakistani families. He has also conducted seminars for aspiring journalists and community leaders.

Khalid's initiatives have earned him recognition from the Dubai Police, the Pakistan Consulate, Chinar Wing, and various community organizations. He continues to use media and public platforms to promote a culture of giving and inter-cultural unity.
