Major General Roger Jarvis Ephraums, CB, OBE, CStJ, DL (12 May 1927 - 6 January 2019) was a British Royal Marines Officer [1]
Early Life
[edit]Ephraums was born in Torquay, attended Forres Prep School (subsequently renamed Purbeck View School) in Swanage, and later Tonbridge School.
His brother Captain Michael Jarvis Ephraums MC [2] was killed in action at Termoli in 1943 during Operation Devon.
Military Career
[edit]In 1965 he was awarded an OBE for service in Malaysia between 1962-4.
As Commanding Officer of 45 Commando he oversaw the move from Stonehouse Barracks in Plymouth to RM Condor in Arbroath as part of the increasing specialisation in Arctic warfare.
In 1975 he attended the NATO Defence College in Rome, as President of Course.
In 1977 Ephraums was appointed a Companion of the Order of the Bath.
Later Life
[edit]After his service retirement Ephraums joined a small protective clothing company in Friockheim, Angus as a Sales and Marketing executive.
In 1985 Ephraums was appointed Deputy Lieutenant of Angus and Representative Colonel Commandant Royal Marines.
He served for 10 years as Chairman[3] of the Arbroath RNLI Lifeboat Association, and was awarded the RNLI Silver Medal.
In 1987 he was appointed Representative Colonel Commandant.
Ephraums died in January 2019[4]
Family
[edit]In 1955 Ephraums married Adela Mary (Molly) Forster; they had two sons and one daughter. Molly Ephraums died in March 2019.
