Ruuvi Innovations Ltd. (Oy)[1] is a Finnish IoT company specializing in open-source wireless sensors for environmental monitoring. Known for the RuuviTag[2] sensor, the company develops products used in smart homes, industrial settings, and scientific applications. Ruuvi is headquartered in Riihimäki, Finland, and is recognized for its commitment to open-source development and community-driven innovation.
History
[edit]Ruuvi was founded in 2016[1] by Lauri Jämsä, evolving from his earlier electronics community project, Ruuvipenkki.
Ruuvi launched the RuuviTag, a compact Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) sensor beacon for environmental monitoring, after a successful Kickstarter campaign that raised $170,525.[3] Development of Ruuvi Station,[4] a companion app for RuuviTag sensors, started as a browser based app during the crowdfunding campaign. Soon afterwards the first versions of Ruuvi Station Android and iOS mobile apps were launched.
Ruuvi expanded its product line, introducing the RuuviTag Pro[5] in 2021, featuring an IP67/IP68/IP69K-rated rugged enclosure, and the Ruuvi Gateway,[6] a router device designed to forward collected Bluetooth Low Energy beacon data, alongside a beta version of Ruuvi Cloud,[7] a cloud service designed to collect, store, and manage data captured from Ruuvi sensor beacons through Ruuvi Gateway router devices. In 2023, Ruuvi announced the full launch of Ruuvi Cloud, expanding remote monitoring capabilities for users (Jämsä, 2023).[8]
