Scrunch AI

Scrunch AI is a US-based marketing technology platform. Its technology is designed to help brands monitor and optimize how they appear in AI-generated search results, such as those produced by ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini (chatbot), AI Overviews, Claude, and other large language model (LLM) interfaces.

Scrunch AI is part of a new wave of Generative engine optimization (GEO) or Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) platforms aimed at optimizing content for AI-driven search.

History

Scrunch AI was co-founded in 2023 by Chris Andrew and Robert MacCloy, both former executives at Hearsay Systems (acquired by Yext in 2024). [1] Andrew served as Hearsay’s first employee and Chief Product Officer, while MacCloy held the position of Chief Technical Officer. The pair launched Scrunch AI to address the growing reliance on AI-driven search tools, creating a platform designed to help businesses optimize their online presence for emerging AI search engines and agents.

In March 2025, Scrunch AI officially launched out of beta, announcing a $4 million seed funding round led by Mayfield. According to company statements, this funding was allocated toward accelerating product development and expanding market reach. Scrunch AI works with customers, including Lenovo, Skims, BairesDev, Clerk, Crunchbase, Fictiv, and Pennsylvania State University.[2][3]

The company was created in response to a shift in digital discovery behavior, where users increasingly rely on AI chat interfaces instead of traditional search engines.
