Shri Vishwaprasannatirtha Swamiji
His holiness Shri Vishwaprasannatirtha Swamiji was born on 3rd March 1964, in a village named Pakshikere near Udupi, Karnataka. He is a Hindu philosopher, Guru, Scholar, saint and the present pontiff of Pejawara Matha established by Madhvacharya. He is the 34th saint after Shri Adhokshajatirtha who is the direct desciple of Jagadguru Shri Madhvacharya.
The name Pejawara Matha is derived from the name of the village Pejavara and it is a prominent institution in the Udupi region, renowned for its contributions to the Madhva tradition,Hindu culture welfare of the society.The primary deity worshiped at this Matha, ordained by the original saint Sri AdhokshajaTirtha and blessed by Madhvacharya , is Lord Vitthala, also known as Shri-Bhoo-Vitthala. This unique deity is distinct from the Vitthala deities in other Mathas. He is depicted with a firm and sturdy hand posture known as "katinyasta hasta." This particular form of Lord Vitthala is referred to as "Aja Vitthala" . Devotees of this Matha worship this unique form of Lord Vitthala along with Lord Rama, who is highly regarded as the deity of Vijayadhvaja Tirtha, the commentator of the Bhagavata Purana . Lord Rama is also venerated alongside Lord Vitthala at this Matha. The Sri Pejavara Adhokshaja Matha plays a significant role in the Madhva tradition and Hindu culture in the Udupi region.
In the lineage, the 33rd pontiff was Vishwesha Tirtha, who served as the head of the Pejawara Matha for 80 years and was a devoted spiritualist and reformer respected by one and all. His disciple, Sri Vishwaprasanna Tirtha, is currently serving as the head pontiff of Shrimatha.
His holiness is a great SanskritScholar. He has learnt all four Vedas, and he is aslo teaching them to his students.
