Sir Malby Sturges Crofton, 5th Baronet (11 January 1923 – 20 January 2002) was a stockbroker and Conservative politician.
Early life
[edit]Malby Sturges Crofton was born on 11 January 1923 at Longford House in County Sligo, Ireland. He was the second child and only son of Sir (Malby Richard) Henry Crofton, 4th Baronet and his wife, Katharine Beatrix (née Pollard).[1]
He was educated at Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge, and served with the Life Guards from 1942-6 in the Middle East and Italy[2], gaining the rank of Captain.[1]
Career
[edit]Sir Malby was a member of the London Stock Exchange from 1957-75, and a partner of Fenn & Crosthwaite.[3]
He was a member of Kensington Borough Council from 1962-1977, and a member of the Greater London Council firstly for Lambeth from 1970-1973[4], and secondly Ealing North from 1977-1981.[4]
He was mayor of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea from 1978-79.[5]
Personal life
[edit]He married, firstly, Elizabeth Mansel in 1961, but later divorced in 1966 without issue. He married, secondly, Sally Eden in 1998, who survived him, without issue.[1]
He was succeeded to the baronetcy in 2002 by his kinsman, Sir Henry Edward Melville Crofton, with male issue in line.[1]
