Sleepiest is a mobile application focused on sleep and wellness, developed by Happiest Ltd, a company based in Leeds, United Kingdom. The app was launched in 2018 and provides sleep-focused digital tools such as bedtime stories, guided meditations, ambient soundscapes, and sleep tracking features. Sleepiest is available on iOS, Android, and web platforms, and is designed to support both adults and children in establishing healthier sleep routines.
Features
[edit]Sleepiest offers a growing catalogue of bedtime audio content, including over 800 bedtime stories and guided meditations. A built-in "mixer" feature allows users to create customised soundscapes by layering ambient sounds. The app also includes a smart alarm and automatic sleep tracking to help users monitor rest quality over time. According to iOSHacker, the app stands out for its interface and its range of content tailored for all age groups.[1]
Podcasts
[edit]In 2021, Sleepiest expanded into original podcast production. Its flagship show, Koala Moon, is a children’s bedtime podcast offering bedtime stories and gentle soundscapes. As of 2024, Koala Moon had surpassed 25 million downloads, according to Audible.[2] The podcast was also shortlisted for the 2024 International Women’s Podcast Awards in the category "Changing the World One Moment at a Time".[3] In 2023, Koala Moon was also included as preloaded content on Storybutton, a podcast listening device for children, alongside other notable shows such as Stories Podcast and Story Pirates.[4]
Sleepiest also produces Koala Shine and Sleep Magic. Both podcasts were recognised at the 2024 Independent Podcast Awards, with Koala Shine winning Best Podcast Jingle and Sleep Magic featured in Apple Podcasts' "Multi-Room" showcase highlighting award-winning independent creators.[5]
Reception
[edit]Sleepiest has been featured in the Apple App Store as an “App of the Day” and received an “Editors’ Choice” designation in several countries.[6] It was also awarded an Honorable Mention by Awwwards for app design in 2020.[7]
A 2024 article by HEYMRJIM compared Koala Moon favourably to other leading children’s sleep podcasts, noting its consistent tone and effectiveness in bedtime routines.[8] Other parenting and lifestyle publications, including Livingetc, have listed Sleepiest among the top apps recommended for improving sleep, particularly for children.[9] A blog by Silentnight included Sleepiest in its 2023 roundup of top sleep apps, citing its bedtime stories and soundscapes for both adults and children.[10] In a March 2024 editorial, lifestyle publisher PureWow included Sleepiest in a roundup of the top free sleep meditation apps, highlighting its bedtime stories and calming audio.[11] The Sleep Foundation also included Sleepiest in its 2024 list of the best bedtime story apps, praising the app’s calm narration and wide age suitability.[12]
Common Sense Media gave the app a 4 out of 5 star rating in a 2024 review, noting its calming content, bedtime routines, and ease of use for children and families.[13] In addition, DesignRush recognised Sleepiest for its visual interface and user experience, highlighting its calming layout, intuitive controls, and soft color palette.[14]
As of early 2024, the app had been downloaded more than 6 million times and reported over 260,000 monthly active listeners.[15] It has been praised in user reviews and editorial mentions for helping with insomnia, anxiety, and establishing more consistent bedtime habits.
