Strangers City is an American indie rock band formed in San Diego in 2022. The project consists of the sole songwriter Jacob (Jake) Gallamore and is known for songs made from home recordings and a notable online following.
History
[edit]Early Releases 2022-2024
[edit]Recorded in the basement of Jake's house, Strangers City first released their debut EP "Stay The Same" on September 4th, 2022 and shortly followed up by the single "Promises". their second EP "rain.", released on October 29th, 2022. their third EP "The Pier" released shortly after on December 3rd 2022 with the separate release of the bonus track "Swami's: on December 4th, 2022. "Gone Too Deep!" was their fourth EP releasing on March 9th 2023. Their debut album "Where'd Everyone Go?" released on May 31th, 2023 which included the single "Just Be Yourself". The single "Trolleys" released soon after on June 8th, 2023. "Tear Me Apart" was their 5th ep released on October 12th, 2023 which was followed by the single "You Know What I Mean" on December 8th 2023. Their second album "Oh, It's Nothing..." Released on March 16th, 2024 which included the singles "I'll Never Be An Artist" and "Lost Your Way".
2023-Present: What A Burden!
[edit]"What A Burden!" was recorded in a kitchens in April of 2024 quickly after the release of "Oh, It's Nothing...". Jake has described the prior project as an "identity crisis" and "a dead end" many times on livestreams from the Strangers City YouTube channel. "What A Burden!" marked the first time a Strangers City project was professionally produced. Strangers City would partner with independent label MFM Records and "What A Burden!" was produced by Matt Foreman. "What A Burden!" released on October 4th, 2024.
Musical Style and Influences
[edit]Strangers City takes on an indie rock and alternative rock sound. Some of the largest influences the band has had are Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes, Radiohead, The Killers, Lovejoy, Wallows, Phoenix, Car Seat Headrest, and The Neighbourhood.
