Taiwan Environmental Information Association(TEIA) (Chinese: 台灣環境資訊協會; pinyin: táiwānhuán jìngzī xùnxié huì) is a non-profit environmental organization founded in 2000 and based in Taipei, Taiwan.
Introduction
[edit]TEIA is dedicated to promoting environmental awareness, sustainable development, and public participation through the dissemination of environmental information and implementation of ecological projects.[1]. TEIA's primary source of income comes from donations made by the public or corporate sponsors to safeguard mountains, forests, and oceans[2][3].
TEIA is responsible for the Earth Day Taiwan website and takes the lead in developing and promoting the annual Earth Day theme and activities across Taiwan.[4].
Mission and Objectives
[edit]TEIA's mission is to work towards a world where human coexists harmoniously with nature[5]. Its goals include:
- Enhancing the distribution of environmental information
- Promoting the environmental charitable trust model.
Key Initiatives
[edit]Environmental Information Center (EIC)
TEIA operates the Environmental Information Center (EIC), a pioneering platform that publishes news articles, expert commentaries, and environmental alerts in Taiwan. EIC is widely recognized as a reliable and independent media of environmental news and research in the country[6][7]. It has also been cited in academic journals and policy studies for its role in environmental communication and public awareness[8][9].
Environmental Trusts
TEIA was the first organization in Taiwan to promote and manage environmental trusts. Its Environmental Trust Center is responsible for the management of several ecological sites, including the Alibang Ecological Farm[10] in New Taipei City. This 10.3-hectare site includes forest and pond ecosystems and is protected to preserve biodiversity and provide environmental education[11][12].
Public Campaigns and Partnerships
TEIA has led or participated in various campaigns on Earth Day, green living, plastic reduction, and marine environmental education[13]. It partners with domestic and international organizations, including UN SDGnetworks, to promote environmental literacy and civic engagement[14].
TEIA also collaborates with businesses under ESG and CSR frameworks. Notable supporters include Dr. Bronner’s and Taiwanese corporations who have sponsored eco-campaigns such as the “21-Day Green Living Challenge[15][16]
Organizational Transformation
[edit]In 2022, TEIA created a foundation named Trust in Nature Foundation(TNF) in order to successfully protect more habitats or farmland.[17][18][19]. TNF aims to deepen and expand the environmental charitable trust model in Taiwan and promote sustainable land conservation and public engagement through various programs and partnerships.
