TeamSense, Inc. is an American technology company that provides text-first attendance and communication solutions for hourly and “deskless” workforces, particularly in manufacturing, logistics, and industrial sectors. Headquartered in Everett, Washington, it was established in 2020 as the first venture formed from the Fortive Corporation and Pioneer Square Labs joint innovation studio,[1] and co-founded by Sheila Stafford and Alison Teegarden. Launched as an app-free platform to help employers track COVID-19 symptoms and workplace health compliance, the company has since expanded to support absence management, employee self-service, and two-way communication via SMS.[1][2]
History
[edit]TeamSense was conceived in early 2020 through a collaboration between Seattle-based startup studio Pioneer Square Labs and Fortive, a diversified industrial technology company. At inception, the company operated as an independent entity backed by equity investment from both.[1] Sheila Stafford, a former Fluke Corp. and General Motors manufacturing executive, joined as co-founder and CEO to lead the startup. Under her leadership, TeamSense quickly broadened its use cases, adding features for employee call-offs (absence reporting), mass communication, and mobile access to company resources.[3] In 2023, TeamSense secured a new round of funding to fuel product development and expansion. The company raised a $4 million seed investment led by Bonfire Ventures.[3] As of 2025, TeamSense continues to develop technology aimed at improving communication and productivity for frontline workers.
Software
[edit]TeamSense offers a software-as-a-service platform that enables human resources teams and site managers to manage HR processes and communication. Interactions with as many as thousands of hourly employees are facilitated in over 20 languages via text messaging and mobile web interfaces—employees do not need to install an application on their personal devices—given the large percentage of the population who may not have corporate emails or are reluctant to download work apps.[3] TeamSense integrates with employers’ existing systems to validate employee identities and record attendance data. All interactions are logged in dashboards that give managers and HR oversight of workforce attendance and engagement in real time. The overall goal of TeamSense’s services is to increase operational efficiency and employee connectivity to reduce costs, downtime, uncertainty, and turnover.[3]
