Andre Rebelo, better known by his online alias Typical Gamer, is a Canadian YouTuber, live streamer, and entrepreneur primarily known for his Fortnite content.[1] He has amassed millions of subscribers on YouTube and has been recognized by multiple industry publications, including Forbes for his influence in user-generated content (UGC).[2]
Career
[edit]Rebelo began creating gaming videos on YouTube in the late 2000s, initially focusing on titles like Grand Theft Auto before transitioning to Fortnite content. Known for his approachable commentary and high-skill gameplay, he grew a substantial audience. By 2024, multiple media outlets identified him as one of the most prominent Fortnite personalities, attributing part of his success to his family-friendly style and regular live streams.[3][4]
Founding of JOGO
[edit]In May 2024, Rebelo invested US\$2 million to co-found the game development studio JOGO alongside Chad “Mustard Plays” Mustard.[5] Focused on Fortnite's Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN), JOGO recruited former Sony and 343 Industries developers to create premium custom maps with rapid development cycles.[6][7] Among these maps, Pit of Legends introduced hero-based RPG elements into a classic Fortnite “Pit” arena, while Candy Cane Heroes (a holiday collaboration with LEGO) showcased the studio’s ability to merge external IP with user-generated modes.[8][9] JOGO reported nearly US\$7 million in cumulative revenue from its Fortnite maps by late 2024.[6]
Industry Recognition and Forbes Listing
[edit]In October 2024, Rebelo ranked #15 on the Forbes Top Creators 2024 list, the highest position held by a gamer that year.[2] The publication cited his estimated earnings of US\$17.9 million and a following of 29 million across social platforms. This milestone occurred amid rapid growth of the influencer market, which Forbes valued at over US\$250 billion at the time.[2]
DMCA Takedown Controversies
[edit]Rebelo and other top Fortnite creators have publicly criticized the misuse of DMCA takedowns within the UEFN community. In April 2024, articles described how some creators filed claims to suspend rival maps for at least 10 days, potentially eliminating those maps’ earnings and momentum.[10][11] Rebelo and his JOGO team experienced these issues firsthand, likening the process to “cheating” and urging Epic Games to streamline its resolution protocols.[10][3]
Personal Life
[edit]In December 2024, Rebelo announced he would livestream his wedding to his longtime partner, inviting his audience to share the occasion virtually.[12][1] While the in-person ceremony in Canada was small, the livestream reached a large online viewership. Rebelo stated that sharing key life events with fans had long been part of his brand identity, further solidifying his community-oriented approach.[1]
