Sister Zebider Zewdie (born 1963) is an Ethiopian humanitarian and the founder of the Mary Joy Development Association, an organization dedicated to providing healthcare, education, and social support programs for vulnerable populations in Ethiopia.[1][2]
Early Life and Education
[edit]Zewdie was born in 1963 in Gammo Goffa, Chincha Woreda, in the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region of Ethiopia. She completed her early education in her hometown before moving to Arba Minch for preparatory studies. She later attended the Addis Ababa Nursing School, where she obtained a degree in nursing.[3]
Career
[edit]After graduating, Zewdie worked at several hospitals, including Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital, Yekatit 12 Hospital, and St. Paul’s Hospital, Addis Ababa. She also served for six years with the Norwegian Save the Children in Limu-Genet and Addis Ababa.[2]
Mary Joy Development Association
[edit]In 1994, Zewdie established the Mary Joy Development Association, a nonprofit organization that offers healthcare, education, and social support services. The organization has implemented various initiatives, including maternal and child healthcare programs, HIV/AIDS prevention, vocational training, and community support projects.[3][2]
Awards and Recognition
[edit]Zewdie has received multiple recognitions for her humanitarian efforts, including:
