Eva Julianna Gaetino (born December 17, 2002) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a center back for Première Ligue club Paris Saint-Germain. She played college soccer for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, where she was selected as a first-team All-American in 2022 and 2023.

Early life and college career

Gaetino was born in Chesapeake, Virginia, and raised in Dexter, Michigan.[3] Her parents, Katherine and Brandon Gaetino, played college soccer at Virginia Tech and Bucknell respectively. She has an older brother, Henry, a younger sister, Bella, who plays collegiately at North Carolina,[4] and a younger brother, Hayden. Gaetino played club soccer for the Michigan Hawks, where she won the ECNL national title in 2017.[5] She graduated from Dexter High School.[5]

Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 2020–2023

Gaetino played four seasons as the starting center back for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish from 2020 to 2023.[5] In her junior and senior years in 2022 and 2023, she was named first-team All-ACC, first-team All-American, and ACC Defensive Player of the Year.[5] Across those two seasons, she anchored a Fighting Irish defense that recorded 20 shutouts, including three over the first three rounds of the 2022 NCAA tournament.[5][6]

Club career

Paris Saint-Germain, 2024–

Gaetino signed with Paris Saint-Germain F.C. on January 23, 2024, forgoing the 2024 NWSL Draft in which she was predicted to be highly selected.[7][8] The signing reunited her with Notre Dame teammate and friend Korbin Albert.[9] She made her debut as a 61st-minute substitute against Lyon on February 11 and provided an assist to Tabitha Chawinga in the 1–1 draw.[10][11] She entered the starting lineup the following week.[12] She scored her first professional goal on her UEFA Women's Champions League debut against BK Häcken on March 20, becoming the youngest U.S. player to score in the tournament's knockout rounds at age 21.[13][14] On July 26, her contract was extended to keep her at the club until June 30, 2026.[10]

International career

Gaetino played friendlies for the United States national under-23 team in 2023.[5] She received her first senior national team call-up at the 2024 SheBelieves Cup.[15] Gaetino made her senior team debut on October 30, 2024, starting a friendly against Argentina which finished as a 3–0 victory.[16]
