Green Power

Green Power is a non-governmental environmental organization based in Hong Kong, established in 1988. The organization promotes environmental education and community engagement, aiming to raise public awareness about environmental issues and encourage sustainable practices.

Mission

Green Power's primary mission is to foster environmental consciousness through education. The organization emphasizes the role of learning in fostering long-term behavioral changes and the preservation of the environment. It also advocates for community participation in addressing environmental challenges.[1]

Green Power Hike

The Green Power Hike is an annual charitable walkathon organized by Green Power. It is the largest event held along the 50-kilometer Hong Kong Trail. First launched in 1994 with around 100 participants, the hike has since attracted over 28,000 participants and raised more than HK$26 million. In 2008, the event saw approximately 3,000 participants and raised over HK$4 million. All funds raised are allocated to support local environmental education programs in kindergartens, primary schools, and secondary schools.[2]

Butterfly Conservation

Hong Kong is home to over 260 species of butterflies, and Green Power actively promotes their conservation. Efforts include educational programs and initiatives to protect butterfly habitats.[3]
