Coaching career

[edit]

Following his retirement as a player, Almada embarked on a coaching career in Uruguay, where he managed Tacuarembó and River Plate de Montevideo.

In June 2015, Almada became the head coach of Barcelona SC in Ecuador. He left a significant mark on the club by winning the Ecuadorian Serie A title and building a competitive and attacking team.

In April 2019, Almada moved to Mexico to coach Santos Laguna, finishing as runners-up in the Guardianes 2021 tournament.

Almada became the head coach of Pachuca in December 2021. During his tenure, he developed a young, dynamic team with a distinct playing style that won the Apertura 2022 championship, followed by the CONCACAF Champions League trophy 18 months later. During the inaugural edition of the FIFA Intercontinental Cup, Pachuca eliminated Botafogo, the reigning CONMEBOL champions at the time. They finished as runners-up after being defeated by Real Madrid in the final.

In May 2025, Almada submitted his resignation.
