Joypurhat Government College is a public higher education institution in the Joypurhat district, Bangladesh. It is located near Joypurhat Railway Station and was established on November 17, 1963. Currently, the college offers education at the higher secondary level in science, humanities, and commerce streams. Additionally, it provides bachelor's (pass) courses, bachelor's (honours) courses in 13 subjects, and master's courses in 13 subjects. According to 2024 data, a total of 11,479 students are enrolled here.
History
[edit]On November 17, 1963, Joypurhat Government College was initially established in an old jute warehouse near the Hanuman Room in Bajla, adjacent to the northern region's railway station platform. The college began offering education at the higher secondary and bachelor's (pass) levels. In 1966, the college was relocated to a newly constructed building on the western side of the railway station. The institution was nationalized in 1980. Subsequently, bachelor's (honours) courses were introduced in 1997, followed by master's courses in 2006. Currently, the college spans an area of 8.77 acres,[citation needed] and Saiful Islam serves as the principal.[1]
Faculty and departments
[edit]Currently, under the Rajshahi Education Board, the college offers higher secondary courses, while bachelor's and master's courses are conducted under the National University. In the higher secondary level, there are 600 seats available in the science stream and 300 seats each in the humanities and commerce streams.
