Some conservative Christians go as far as to say that liberal Christianity is a distinct religion to Christianity. According to American theologian Roger E. Olson, in his book 'Against Liberal Theology Putting The Brakes On Progressive Christianity'. Liberal Christianity differs to regular Christianity because it "allows modern knowledge, whatever that is at the moment, to stand in authority over the Bible in the most important matters.” This in turn leads to either overt rejection of or redefinition of basic doctrines that are essential to Christianity, such as the deity of Christ or the truthfulness of the resurrection according to Olson.
