New Horizons (in full: New Horizons Computer Learning Centers) is an IT training organization and a subsidiary of New Horizons Worldwide Inc. The company operates globally in 72 countries through a franchise model.[1][2]
New Horizons offers courses in personal computing, software applications, and business skill development. The company offers training and certification programs authorized by technology vendors such as Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA, and VMware. Training formats include in-person classes, online instructor-led sessions, and self-paced laboratory exercises, with delivery methods varying by location.[1]
Company History
[edit]New Horizons was founded by Michael Brinda in Laguna Hills in 1982. The company expanded its offerings in 1985 after incorporating Lotus and C++ into its curriculum and relocating to Irvine, CA. In 1988, it added Windows programming courses, prompting another move to Santa Ana. By 1992, an expanded course offering facilitated nationwide growth.[citation needed]
In 1993, New Horizons established its first international branch in Mexico City. The following year, it was acquired by Handex Consulting & Remediation LLC,[3] leading to further expansion into South America, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. Around this time, the company also opened its first European location in Barcelona.
New Horizons began trading on NASDAQ in 1996 under the ticker symbol NEWH, which changed to NWRZ in 2009.[4] By 1997, the company operated 154 training centers, including 100 Microsoft Certified Technical Education Centers (CTECs). In 2004, it partnered with the EC-Council to offer Certified Ethical Hacker and Countermeasures Training.[5] In 2011, its North American centers were granted VMware Authorized Training Center Status.
In 2019, the U.S. Department of Justice fined New Horizons (Spokane) $120,000 for false claims related to the G.I. Bill.[6]
