Perilous Times: Free Speech in Wartime from the Sedition Act of 1798 to the War on Terrorism is a 2004 book by American Constitutional law scholar Geoffrey R. Stone, reviewing the treatment of the United States First Amendment during times of war. It received numerous awards within the fields of history, political science, and law.
Reception
[edit]On Metacritic, the book received a 88 out of 100 based on 14 critic reviews, indicating "universal acclaim".[1] In the March/April 2005 issue of Bookmarks, the book was scored 3.5 out of 5. The magazine's critical summary reads: "Most critics found new legal and critical insight in Stone’s examination of the First Amendment and how its principles have been compromised during wartime".[2]
