Pushkar Lele (born 14 November 1979) is a Hindustani Classical Vocalist belonging to the Gwalior gharana.

Career

Lele, a child prodigy, was introduced to the world of music while in kindergarten when his aunt gifted him a toy harmonium. He would play National Anthem and other nursery rhymes on the toy harmonium.[1] This is when his mother noticed his musical talent and started his formal music training in light music under Ms. Medha Gandhe.[2]

Pushkar Lele is today, one of India’s leading North Indian classical vocalists belonging to the Gwalior gharana. A rigorous study of more than two decades with renowned and able Gurus, like Pt. Gangadharbua Pimpalkhare (disciple of Pt. Vinayakbua Patwardhan), Pt. Vijay Koparkar (Disciple of Dr. Vasantrao Deshpande & Pt. Jitendra Abhisheki), Pt. Vijay Sardeshmukh and Pt. Satyasheel Deshpande (both, senior disciples of Pt. Kumar Gandharva), has enriched Pushkar with a rich fund of knowledge. He is  a recipient of the Central Government scholarship for classical vocal music awarded by the Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT) as well as the scholarship from the Department of Culture, Government of India. He has featured on various TV Channels like E-TV (Marathi), Zee Marathi, Doordarshan (Sahyadri) and DD Bharati. He is a regular performer on AIR (All India Radio).

Pushkar holds a Masters Degree in Music from Lalit Kala Kendra (Centre for Performing Arts), University of Pune and a Doctorate Degree (PhD) from the prestigious Indira Kala Sangit Vishwavidyalaya, Khairagarh, the only exclusively performing arts University in India. He is currently working as Professor and HoD, Department of Performing Arts of Modern College of Arts, Science and Commerce (Autonomous), Shivajinagar, Pune.

With a performing career spanning more than 30 years, Pushkar performs regularly all over India for private and public concerts and has performed on various prestigious music stages like the Pune Festival, Tansen Samaroha (Gwalior), NCPA (Mumbai), Nehru Centre (Mumbai), Kalidas Festival (Nagpur), Bharat Bhavan (Bhopal), Kala Academy (Goa), Prayag Sangit Samiti (Allahabad), Pt. V.D. Paluskar Jayanti Sangeet Samaroha (New Delhi), Shriram Shankarlal Music Festival (New Delhi), Bhakti Utsav (New Delhi), Delhi International Arts Festival, ICCR (New Delhi), Rajasthan International Folk Festival (Jodhpur RIFF) and IGNCA (SRC, Bangalore).

He has had successful concert tours to USA, Australia, Belgium, Netherlands, Israel, Singapore and UAE.

Apart from pure classical, he also presents Natyasangeet, Bhavgeet, Bhajan, Tappa, Thumri, Dadra, Hori, Marathi Abhang-s, Malwi Lokgeet-s and other semi-classical and folk forms with exceptional ease and mastery. Dr. Lele is a learned scholar-researcher, erudite speaker-writer and teaches music through formal tutoring and appreciation modules. He regularly conducts workshops on Hindustani Classical Music Appreciation (online and offline) which have become extremely popular. Stanford University (USA), NCPA (Mumbai) and Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts (SRC, Bangalore), FTII Pune are just some of the important places where he has conducted these workshops. He also conducts lec-dems and workshops for school children under the SPIC-MACAY program. He is also an esteemed empaneled Guru at Lalit Kala Kendra, Pune.

He has many albums to his credit brought out by Fountain Music, Ninaad Creations, Dreams Entertainment and Sonic Octaves. Pushkar ji has been featured as one of 35 Young Achievers from all over India, belonging to various fields by INDIA TODAY magazine.
