Sajjad Akram is a retired senior officer of the Pakistan Army who had commanded the I Corps, situated at Mangla. Following retirement, he served as Chairman of the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC).
Early life and education
[edit]Akram was born on 5 April 1954 in Hyderabad, Sindh. He is a graduate of the Command and Staff College, Quetta and the National Defence College in Islamabad.[1]
Military career
[edit]Akram was commissioned on the 11 Baloch Regiment via 48th PMA Long Course.
During long illustrious military career, he has served at various capacities at home and aborad. As a brigadier, he commanded the 6 Azad Kashmir Brigade. Upon promotion to major general, he had led an infantry division. In October 2003, Akram was appointed as Force Commander of the United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL), a post he held until September 2005.[2][3]
In 2006, he was appointed Corps Commander of I Corps, Mangla, one of the Pakistan Army’s principal strike formations.[4][5] Later, he led the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority.[6][7]
He retired from military in 2010.[8]
Post-retirement
[edit]After retiring from active service, Akram was appointed as Chairman of the Punjab Public Service Commission in 2013, a position he held until 2018.[9] Under his tenure, he had said that the PPSC had ensured a system which is purely based on merit and performance.[10][11]
