Saurabh V. Gadgil[1] (born 1976 or 1977[2]) is an Indian entrepreneur who serves as the Managing Director and Chairman of PNG Jewellers,[3][4] a jewellery company established in 1832. He is the grandson of Anant Gadgil, also known as Dajikaka,[5] the founder of P N Gadgil Jewellers.[6] Gadgil also served as the Director and National Vice President of the India Bullion & Jewellers Association Ltd. (IBJA).[7]

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, his net worth was estimated at $1.1 billion in September 2023, following PNG Jewellers' initial public offering.[2][8]

Early life

[edit]

Saurabh was born in Pune, Maharashtra,[9] into the family of jeweler-businessman Vidyadhar Gadgil.[10] His grandfather, Dajikaka, started the Pune branch of P N Gadgil Jewellers in 1958.[11] Saurabh completed his BCom degree in 1998 from Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce (BMCC) in Pune and later pursued a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. He obtained his MBA from Symbiosis Institute of International Business (SIIB) and interned at the Reserve Bank of India, where he studied the gold market.[10] Gadgil is also a chess player and has competed in several state-level tournaments.[12][13] In 2000, he married Radhika Gadgil, and the couple has two children.[14]

Career

[edit]

Saurabh joined his family-owned business, PNG Jewellers, in 1998 when the company operated as a partnership firm.[15] He later restructured the organization into a corporate entity and oversaw its geographic expansion into cities including Pune, Nashik, and Kolhapur, as well as international markets such as the UAE and the United States.[16] After the death of his grandfather, Anant Gadgil (colloquially known as Dajikaka), in 2014, the company added 11 new retail locations.[17][18]

During Gadgil's tenure, PNG Jewellers engaged Bollywood actors Madhuri Dixit, Raveena Tandon, and Salman Khan as brand ambassadors. As of 2024, the company operates 53 stores, predominantly in Maharashtra, comprising 42 company-owned outlets and 11 franchise locations. Collaborations with Salman Khan led to jewelry designs appearing in the films Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015) and Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015).[19] He also launched the TIMELESS Collection by Madhuri Dixit[20] and opened a boutique store at the JW Marriott in Pune.[21] Saurabh became the Director of Style Quotient Jewellery. In 2015, he partnered with actress Preity Zinta to open a P N Gadhil store in Fremont, California,[22] and launched the Being Human Jewellery line in association with Salman Khan's charitable brand.[23]

In 2015, he was appointed Vice President for the West Zone of the India Bullion & Jewellers Association Ltd.[24] Under his leadership, PNG Jewellers launched an initial public offering (IPO) in September 2024,[25][26][27] after which Gadgil was listed on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index with an estimated net worth of $1.1 billion.[28][29][30][31]

As of 2024, PNG operates 48 retail outlets in Maharashtra, with 28 owned stores and 11 franchisee outlets.[32][33]

Recognition
