Skirmish of Zdziar was a skirmish between Czechoslovakia and Poland. It occurred on 27 November 1938 and resulted in a Polish victory[1]
Skirmish
[edit]The battle happened on a disputed territory on the Polish-Slovak border. Czecholovak colonel Frantisek Kuhl was not informed about the border correction between both nations. Both armies exchanged fire, killing major Stefan Rago and corporal Henryk Oleksowicz.[1]
After being informed about the border corrections colonel Frantisek Kuhl retreated his army and allowed the Polish army to occupy the territory, ending the skirmish.[1]
Aftermath
[edit]This short conflict allowed Poland to occupy minor territories around Spiš. But in 1939 Slovakia with the support of Germany decided to invade the disputed territories and annex it into their country.
But the skirmish in 1938 was not the end of the conflicts around Spiš. Another border clash around Spiš happened on 17 July 1945 in which Poles again occupied the territory.[2]
