Sofia Isella (born January 29, 2005), stylized professionally in all caps as SOFIA ISELLA, is an American singer-songwriter and music producer. She has written two EPs, releasing the first in 2020 and the second in 2024. After gaining popularity on TikTok, she performed as a concert opener for Melanie Martinez, Tom Odell, and Taylor Swift in 2023 and 2024. Isella's work contains elements of alternative, gothic, and indie music and frequently focuses on themes of women's empowerment.
Early life
[edit]Sofia Isella was born in Los Angeles, California on January 29, 2005.[1][2] She began playing the violin when she was three years old, and she wrote her first song lyrics at age eight.[3] Isella's family moved frequently throughout her childhood, eventually settling in Burleigh Heads, Queensland in 2020.[1][4] They returned to Los Angeles by mid-2024.[3]
Career
[edit]Isella's first extended play, "I'm Not Yours", was released in 2020 and primarily consisted of songs she had written when she was 14 and 15.[4][5] She performed several concerts after moving to Australia, including a set at the Caloundra Music Festival.[4] After gaining popularity on TikTok,[6] Isella was a concert opener for Melanie Martinez and Tom Odell in late 2023 and early 2024.[7] In May and June 2024, she opened for Martinez's Trilogy Tour.[8][9] Two months later, she was an opening act on Taylor Swift's Eras Tour.[3][6][10]
Isella released her second EP, "I Can Be Your Mother", on September 6, 2024.[3][11] She toured California later that month.[12]
Artistry and influences
[edit]Isella's musical style has been described as alternative,[1][4], gothic,[10] and indie.[12][13] Her songs frequently focus on themes of women's empowerment.[6][14] She has named Trent Reznor, Beck, Taylor Swift, Sylvia Plath, Margaret Atwood, Mona Awad, and Anne Sexton as major influences.[3][12]
