Sports Sedan

- The 1985 CAMS Manual states that it was open only to Group D GT Cars. Could it be that any Group B Sports Sedan had to be presented as a Group D GT Car to gain a start in an AGTC race? GTHO (talk) 23:29, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
- I can't claim to know the specifics but common sense asks how an early 80's Toyota Celica, a Mark II Ford Escort, a Group C touring car Nissan Bluebird or a fifteen year old Valiant Charger can claim to be a GT. --Falcadore (talk) 00:23, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
- Page 297 of the 1985 CAMS Manual tells us that to be eligible to run in the GT group "cars must be derived from a make which appears on the list which forms part of these regulations". Unfortunately the list doesn't appear in the manual. Given the obvious lack of real GT cars running in the category, I've no doubt that CAMS were pretty liberal when it came to adding new cars to the list. On the other hand you may be correct in saying that Sports Sedans were allowed to compete, but do we have any references to back this up? GTHO (talk) 23:26, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
- Allowed? The majority of the fields were Sports Sedans. The cars are recognisably Sports Sedans in photos and were called such both before and after the four year merger of the GT/SS titles. Unfortunately the bulk of my reference material is in storage presently and the one relevant book from the era makes only oblique references: eg "...was reminiscent of his dominance of the Australian Sports Sedan Series in 1978 and 1979. Apart from the title change, the difference in 1984 was his mount." and "Fastest of the Sports Sedans and completing row four of the grid". I suggest "Australian Motor Racing Year 1982/83 will provide the necessary references for the technical explanation of the four year merge of the two series. --Falcadore (talk) 00:05, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
- 83, 84 & 85 "seasons" amended accordingly. The 1982 title was a little different as the 1982 CAMS Manual specifically mentions both Group D GT Cars and Group B Sports Sedans in terms of Championship eligibilty. GTHO (talk) 05:55, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
Points System for 1985 AGTC
[edit]We have said that "Points were awarded on a 30-27-24-21-19-15 basis to the top six finishers in each round" but this seems to be in conflict with the 1985 CAMS Manual of Motor Sport. In the "Conditions for Australian Titles" section of that publication it states "In the case of Championships which do not provide for classes, scale A shall be used in each part". Scale A is shown as follows:
