East Harlem apartment buildings explosion → 2014 East Harlem apartment buildings explosion – The current name does not adequately identify the incident in question, as it is "free floating" without a year of occurrence to anchor it in a way that helps our readers. Although the argument has been made that WP:PRECISION forbids the use of a year in the title, that policy also notes that "Exceptions to the precision criterion, validated by consensus, may sometimes result from the application of some other naming criteria." The exception here is one which has been used on any number of existing articles, because it firms up the identification of the incident and follows common sense.
Similar articles which have years in their name to anchor them, and not to disambiguate then from other articles, are:
- 2007 New York City steam explosion ( we have no other articles on specific steam pipe explosions in New York City}
- 1969 Yangjiang earthquake (we have no other articles on an earthquake in Yangjiang}
- 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami (we have no other articles on an earthquake and tsunami in the Indian Ocean}
- 2013 Colombian clashes (we have no other articles on "clashes" in Colombia)
- 2011 Joplin tornado (we have no other articles on tornadoes in Joplin)
- 1888 Northwest United States cold wave (we have no other articles on cold waves in the northwest of the United States)
- 2011 Tucson shooting (we have no other articles on shootings in Tucson by that name)
- 1972 Chicago-O'Hare runway collision (we have no other article on runway collisions in O'Hare by that name)

- Support per nom, and moves in general should not be done without a day or two notice. Jim.henderson (talk) 12:43, 21 March 2014 (UTC)
- Support – The desire to avoid unnecessary disambiguation should not be taken to extremes. Including the year in which such an event occurred is helpful to readers. —BarrelProof (talk) 01:31, 22 March 2014 (UTC)
- Support – Maybe if the nominator had been more lucid about the issue in the first place, I wouldn't have moved it back to this title. However, the reasoning is logical. Epicgenius (talk) 16:31, 22 March 2014 (UTC)

- Oppose Hate to break up the unanimity, but there are precedents the other way, too. Please see North Dakota gubernatorial recall election and California gubernatorial recall election for the two that come to my mind. The year isn't necessary for disambiguation per WP:UNDAB, I don't think this is an "extreme". – Muboshgu (talk) 14:57, 28 March 2014 (UTC)

2014 East Harlem apartment buildings explosion → 2014 East Harlem gas explosion – The explosion occurred because of a gas leak, the apartment buildings did not cause the explosion. Would align article title more with similar events of this nature, like the recent 2015 East Village gas explosion. --Relisted. - Support - Sure, why not. BMK (talk) 18:33, 1 May 2015 (UTC)
- Support because the current title is a little misleading, according to similar naming conventions. Epic Genius (talk) 06:52, 2 May 2015 (UTC)
