Rename?

The article's name should be changed to 2022 El'ad axe attack, in a similar manner to articles like Düsseldorf axe attack or Afula axe attack. TheStriker (talk) 08:58, 6 May 2022 (UTC)

Mainstream, reliable sources disagree about which type of weapon(s) the attackers used, so the title should be 2022 El'ad attack - at least until it's known what method(s) were used. Jim Michael 2 (talk) 11:42, 6 May 2022 (UTC)

If this article is going to be renamed, bear in mind that 2022 is a disambiguator, too. So a more CONCISE, yet WP:PRECISE article title would be El'ad stabbing. I wouldn't want to be locked in to a particular weapon by the article title, when multiple different weapons were used. A "stabbing" also more precisely describes the crime and the nature of the injuries acquired as well as the sorts of weapons used, than an "attack" which is much less specific. At this stage, I don't see there is a pressing need to change the article's "working" title as it is adequate for current needs. Thanks. I replaced the DW and CNN reports that described it as "stabbing" with more accurate reports from Jerusalem Post and Maariv. The latter is in Hebrew and includes more specific description of the events. The name of the Hebrew article translates literally to "The El'ad attack" ("Pigua", not exactly attack, but close enough). The article needs to be clear about the method(s) of attack. The lead & ibox only mention mass stabbing. If there were multiple methods, the title should be El'ad attack if it was the only notable attack there, or 2022 El'ad attack if there have been others. Many of the sources are calling this event the "El'ad attack". I don't see any sources saying "El'ad axe attack". So I, too, would prefer "El'ad attack" as that is the commonly recognizable name. Remember, there are several criteria for naming articles, with conciseness being one, while consistency is another. IDC10 doesn't identify a stab wound as a type of injury, preferring cut or laceration. External weapons causing injuries or mortality are described as sharp or cutting weapons, including knives, swords, daggers and glass as separate categories, but not axes distinguishing axes from other sharp weapons. To me, the word "axe" in those other articles is a disambiguator word. A disambiguator word can be omitted from a title if there is no loss of precision identifying the article in a recognizable way. A more general and more neutral title is better because it also provides some uncertainty. So, "El'ad attack" is a starting point. If there are no other articles with that name then use that name. If there are other articles, it is consistent to use the year as a disambiguator, it is far less usual to use a weapon for that purpose. I suspect those "attack" articles containing a weapon in the name may depend on sources that use those titles, or need to be disambiguated by weapon or are otherwise inconsistent with the naming of other "attack" articles. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 10:01, 25 May 2022 (UTC)
