Change of name

The state cabinet approved a change of name for the city of Ahmednagar on 13 March 2024, so it is likely that municipal corporation will change its name to match. But we should continue using the article name as the name in the article. We can only change the article name when there is evidence that the new name has become the commonly-used English language name for Ahmednagar. News articles about the various steps that politicians have taken to change the name are not evidence of what the common name is.-- Toddy1 (talk) 17:10, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Toddy1 It looks like the city council's webpage has changed ([1]). I agree about the concerns with common name; we need to see evidence of how the city is referred to in current English-language newspapers and other such reliable sources. —C.Fred (talk) 14:00, 16 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

It would probably be best to have a move discussion for Ahmednagar that included Ahmednagar Municipal Corporation and Ahmednagar district, since from a reader's point of view it would be confusing if we decided to move one, but not the others.-- Toddy1 (talk) 14:14, 16 February 2025 (UTC) (updated)[reply]
