Happy to review one of yours. AhmadLX-(Wikiposta) 18:47, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Misc.

  • "offended pious opinion by associating with the ayyārūn militia". Can you add why was association with ayyārūn militia offensive to the pious?
    • Done.
  • "al-Muti was forced to accompany the Buyid ruler for security." This should be elaborated further. Whose security and what sort of security?
    • Done.
  • Per MOS:ISLAM, only allowed diacritical mark is ' and that only inside a word (that is not in the beginning or end). The rest should be removed (e.g amīr al-umarāʾ → amir al-umara, ayyārūn → ayyarun).
    • Hmmm, why was I under the impression that this applied only to titles? Anyway, done.

Sources

  • Is replacement of Bowen, Harold (1928) and Le Strange, Guy (1922) possible? The latter, I think, you can remove without any loss; the only instance of its use is also supported by another source.
    • Hmmm, they are old but are still reliable sources. I've seen them very often in secondary and tertiary literature. Bowen I use mostly for some narrative stuff (which doesn't really 'age') and for quotes, because his turns of phrase are often rather elegant. Le Strange is still an essential resource on medieval Baghdad, and I prefer having him in the list of sources, for the convenience of any reader interested in learning more.
Okay.
  • The article heavily relies on Busse, Heribert (2004); 26 out of 43 citation are from it. Can you spread citations a bit?
    • I've made a request at REX for Donohue (I have *very* limited access via Google Books), but until it comes through, it will have to be Busse. And he is one of the chief and most exhaustive studies of the period, so inevitably I have to use him. Otherwise the article would have been half the size. Plus the refs are a bit misleading; the article also uses EI2 and İA to a great extent, but their refs are all together.
You can find some good stuff in Shaban volume 2, I suppose. Tabari can also be used to distribute citations a little. This might also help.
  • "and left Baghdad to campaign against the Buyids, accompanied by both al-Muti and al-Ta'i.[2][3]" is not supported by [2].
    • The result of copyediting; thanks for catching this, removed.

Hi AhmadLX, thanks for taking this on (I was worried an article with this subject would languish there for months). I think I've addressed your points above. Anything else, even beyond GA requirements? Since you have a knowledge of the period and its issues, I would very much appreciate your opinion on completeness and comprehensibility of the article. Constantine 12:04, 10 April 2021 (UTC) PS, there will be a series of Abbasid caliphs' articles coming to GA soon, if you are interested, keep an eye open ;) Constantine 12:05, 10 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I cannot think of anything else here. Seems quite thorough for a subject like this. Source formatting is perfect. Comprehensibility-wise is good and the prose impressed me. TBH, my knowledge of the Abbasid period is very limited, but I will be happy to review some of the noms and increase my knowledge in the process.AhmadLX-(Wikiposta) 15:58, 10 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Cplakidas: Any news? I found this, although part relevant to this article in not accessible in Google preview. I have mentioned a couple other possibilities above. But other than these, I really couldn't find anything. So if you haven't found anything new either, I will pass this. AhmadLX-(Wikiposta) 15:08, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
