Use English when possible

[edit]

Remember that this is an English Wikipedia page, first and foremost. There are cases when names and expressions only have a Japanese name to them and must be Romanicized. However, there are English expressions and equivalents to many words that should be used to explain a Japanese word or concept in conjunction or with linkage to the word for those not versed in Japanese language, customs, or terminology. The insistence of some posters on here to use Japanese terms without an explanation is more elitist than it is helpful, so please refrain from such activity in the future.

en français

[edit]

Exists now in French. Lets see free original images. Same Name. Please, can you modify this article. Ruizo, from french wikipédia.

If you have the means, then please alter the page to include a French influence.

I put those pictures on Commons. I draw them. They are free.

Rollpanna

[edit]

I just replace the translation Rollingpanna with Rollpanna. I don't knowa if there is a certain official translation I might not know about, but the proper translations of ロールパン is "roll" or "bun," not "rolling". -Mason —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.19.246.208 (talk) 15:44, 16 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

super hearing

[edit]

the article states that anpanman specifically can hear his name yelled out. but in some movies it seems he has super hearing for any type of scream of distress. --Popoi (talk) 23:08, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dates / use of "manga" term in article

[edit]

From what I have read about the series (on Japanese Wikipedia and elsewhere), and have seen in stores, the vast majority of Yanase's Anpanman work is in the form of picture books (somewhere around 90 of them at this point). There was a monthly manga from 1976 to 1982, which may have introduced a number of the characters and concepts that form the basis of the anime (and this seems to be reflected in the books, as the 25-book "mini-story" series that immediately followed the manga is much closer in both content and art style to the subsequent anime series). However, this manga series appears never to have been reprinted, so its contents are difficult to verify.

There was also a newspaper comic running on Sundays in the Yomiuri Shimbun form 1990 to 1994, the first 18 months or so of which are available in 3 volumes with English translation in the margins, which should make it somewhat more useful to the article (though of less value due to the series already being established).

Second, some of the dates regarding Yanase's work are suspect. The first Anpanman story proper was published in 1973 (first in a compilation, then later as a standalone picture book), though it is mentioned that a prototype story ran in a magazine in 1969 where "Anpanman" was not the same character, but a human who delivered anpan to starving people. It seems rather dubious to accept this as a part of the mainline series, and as such, a bad idea to characterize the series as having been "ongoing" since then. (While there is no "ongoing" manga either, it makes sense to keep it after relabeling the infobox to reference the picture book series, as is appears the only thing that will keep Yanase from writing more Anpanman books is his death.)

I need some advice regarding tracking down sources too, as much of the manga material (apart from the truncated 3-volume compilation of the newspaper comic) is either out of print or was never republished to begin with. This is particularly problematic for the first manga, as it was published during a time when the series was still developing the majority of its most well-known traits. (Baikinman first appeared in the picture book series during the manga's run, for example, but it's impossible to know which he showed up in first without access to the manga as well.) --Julian Grybowski (talk) 15:02, 23 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sigh……alright….

[edit]

I’m sorry for all the sockpuppeting and vandalism I’ve done to the Anpanman page. It’s just that it’s already the end of March and Tubi still only has 10 films…… but alas, I must admit what I did was completely wrong and I take full responsibility for all that unnecessary editing of mine. 2600:1005:B0CB:9777:FC23:5441:F528:2D59 (talk) 17:01, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

In other words, I’m terribly sorry for all the sockpuppeting I’ve done here. 2600:1005:B0B9:B007:873:F34F:CA4C:5F1D (talk) 02:59, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
