English
[edit]Who decided this article about a British band, whose four members are all British, celebrating their foundation in a British city, at an event in that British city, should not use British English? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 17:23, 2 July 2025 (UTC)
References
[edit]For the third time now, User:TheNewMinistry has reverted me, to change my valid references; most egregiously making one of them attribute the cited work to the wrong body as publisher. I asked them not to do this, which they saw, but instead to discuss any issues which were not clear to them on this talk page, but they just went ahead and continued reverting, using sarcastic edit summaries as they did so. They've been editing for nigh on 20 years, so don't have the excuse of being a naive newbie.
I'm going to fix the misattributed citation now, but if it happens again it will be a matter for administrators. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 17:55, 2 July 2025 (UTC)
- I only reverted one of your edits, which you undid and complained that I didn't provide edit summaries. I simply went back and redid some edits individually so you could have a full explanation as to what was happening. But don't worry, I maintained your British Time/Date format out of respect for your passionate devotion to the subject. Cheers, mate! TheNewMinistry (talk) 17:58, 2 July 2025 (UTC)
- Anyone can see when and how often you reverted me; you did so more than once.
- You are continuing to revert me and introducing errors in doing so; I have just had to correct yet another. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 14:14, 6 July 2025 (UTC)
Two things
[edit]- Should it be called "full sets"? These, apart from Black Sabbath, most certainly will not be full sets. A full set of a band like Metallica or Guns n' Roses lasts for 2 hours or more. It's physically impossible, even with a revolving stage. Not sure what the proper title should be, but "full sets" is misleading.
- "The event sold out in 16 minutes" while technically true, this doesn't highlight the fact that the vast majority of people who wanted to buy a ticket, did not buy one, cause of overwhelming interest. If someone joined the queue 15 minutes in (or even one second after the tickets were released), they would simply have no chance with their position in the queue. 89.76.86.83 (talk) 07:32, 3 July 2025 (UTC)
- We base content on what reliable sources say. Do you have a reliable source that says the supporting bands will not perform "full sets"? Do you have one that says the vast majority of people who wanted to buy a ticket, did not buy one? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 08:39, 3 July 2025 (UTC)
- 1. There's a leak of the schedule and Mastodon is bound to play for 15 minutes for example. Hard to call that a "full set", don't you think? I understand that the leak is not a proper source and I'm fine with having this changed tomorrow, when the event takes place, but I see it was changed to much better worded "Opening acts" now.
- But most importantly, you made a logical fallacy error here. Why should *I* prove that the bands would not play full sets? You have a content based on what reliable sources say, well, what reliable source said that around 15 bands are going to play full sets during a show that starts at 1 pm (that's confirmed) and has one stage (also confirmed)? You or some other editor added that information, the burden to prove that was on you/them, not me. 89.76.86.83 (talk) 10:41, 4 July 2025 (UTC)
- Again: Do you have a reliable source?
- I made no logical fallacy; WP:V is a core Wikipedia policy; it serves us well.
- Nor did I add anything about "sets", full or otherwise. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 11:28, 4 July 2025 (UTC)
- Not sure if I understood correctly. You're asking me if I have a reliable source to disprove something which was posted without a source? 89.76.86.83 (talk) 12:24, 4 July 2025 (UTC)
Categories for non-headlining bands
[edit]This event has been compared to The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert and Live Aid - all-day events featuring multiple artists, and you'll notice none of those articles are clogged up with categories from the supporting acts. Please justify your desire for this article to include such categories. TheNewMinistry (talk) 14:33, 6 July 2025 (UTC)
- "Clogged up"? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 14:48, 6 July 2025 (UTC)
Fred Durst
[edit]I was there in person and Fred Durst performing "Changes" was NOT shown on screen in between sets (unlike e.g. "Mr. Crowley" by Jack Black, which was). I was genuinely surprised when I saw in this article that such performance was part of the event... We saw no trace of Fred Durst yesterday at Villa Park! In fact my friend and I were thinking he must have been the artist that Sharon dropped for demanding payment.
I suggest putting some sort of note that Fred Durst's performance was "live stream only" 37.1.99.58 (talk) 22:46, 6 July 2025 (UTC)
- The wording says that several pre-recorded performances were "aired" which means they were broadcast to people not in attendance. That wording is sufficiently clear; no need to make any changes. Binksternet (talk) 00:16, 7 July 2025 (UTC)
