Combatants

[edit]

In the infobox, I changed the Irish combatants from "Irish alliance" to "Fermanagh". I did this because the article only names Hugh Maguire (Lord of Fermanagh) and his forces as taking part on the Irish side, and because I thought it would be wrong to use the red hand of the Ó Néill dynasty since its chief, Hugh O'Neill, fought on the English side in this battle (altho he would go on to lead the Irish alliance). Gallowglas1598 reverted this on the grounds that "Cormac MacBaron O'Neill provided the bulk of the troops" for Maguire. However, the article doesn't mention this, nor Cormac MacBaron. If this is true, it should be added to the article and backed up with a good source. Also, everything in the article should have inline citations. Gallowglas1598 has done a good job writing this article and others on the Nine Years' War, but we could do with more inline cites. ~Asarlaí 18:40, 2 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The Irish confederation was kept because these forces are those under the command of Maguire and Cormac MacBaron O'Neill. Maguire had very little forces before he was reinforced wit troops from Tyrone. Tyrone may have been on the Crown side at Belelleek but he was orchestrating the actions of Maguire, Cormac and O'Donnell. Adding this level of explanation to justify the appearance of the red hand is unwarranted for this article as it would unbalance it . Gallowglas 1598. All this is covered in O'Neill's Chapter 1 Proxy war in the Nine Years War book. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gallowglas1598 (talkcontribs) 18:55, 2 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I think we need to note in the article that Cormac MacBaron was supporting Maguire, along with an inline citation. It's an interesting and relevant bit of detail, and it'd also explain why we have an "Irish alliance" as one of the combatants instead of just Fermanagh. It'd be especially helpful for readers who aren't familiar with the Nine Years' War. A line or two is all that would be needed. I'd add it myself but I don't have the book. ~Asarlaí 20:28, 2 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
