Monorail

[edit]

Someone should write a section on the whole monorail boondogle - it was quite a big deal at the time, back in the 70s I think. Brianyoumans (talk) 20:14, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Added a mention. Can't find much information at all on it! --Zfish118 (talk) 01:29, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I know that the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the local Sierra Club opposed it. The NAACP claimed it "wasn't real mass transit," and the Sierra Club was upset with the idea of providing parking lots for the monorail. Ultimately, I think the real reason they opposed it was because it was built by Ford Motor Company and both groups were on an attack against the automotive industry in the 1970's. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 18:49, 5 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I found a couple of additional articles on the People Mover. It was never a monorail but an elevated roadway that automated cars traveled on. I updated the section to reflect that and added/corrected other information. Dbroer (talk) 15:22, 6 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Salt Lake City International Airport

[edit]

I may be ignorant here, but please explain why SLC can't be listed under seasonal routes. While it is for 1 day this year, wouldn't it be considered seasonal if Delta does this again next year etc? Airplanegod (talk) 17:16, 14 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

We always need something solid when listing a destination. If you can't confirm a frequency of flights before the end of schedule (usually only 11 months out), it's not a destination/service. Ad hoc charters are not even allowed, lest ad hoc "scheduled" services. To be a "regular destination" you need services all 52 weeks of the year. Then logic goes that to be a seasonal "destination", you need more than a week of schedules, and if not, verifiable repetition in the schedule. Otherwise how do we know when to take it off the list? If all you can do is "begins December 1, 2013, ends December 1, 2013", then it shouldn't appear at all. HkCaGu (talk) 05:19, 15 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Terminal B closure reasons?

[edit]

Why was terminal B closed to passenger use? Clrichey (talk) 00:51, 5 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have the documentation to incorporate this into the article, but the old Murphy Terminal was closed after the east concourse of Terminal A was added. The airport had excess gate capacity, and the design of the older terminal didn't really work well with modern demands, particularly those of post-9/11 security needs.
By the time the decision was made to close the old terminal, the airport had long-range plans to realign the terminal roadways in support of eventually adding garage space and a consolidated rental car facility, and to eventually build a new terminal building if/when supported by demand. The first step in executing that long-term plan was to decommission and eventually demolish the old terminal, making it possible to advance the plans to realign the terminal-area roadways.
