Disputed section
[edit]I tried to edit the disputed section. I added another criticism, but added "or so fan's believe" to the uncited section. I also added the compliment of the changed team personality.
Offspring, in personal section
[edit]I would like to know why the section was removed. If i do not receive a reason, i will replace it back in there Stopprop 23:27, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
POV
[edit]Please keep in mind that WIKIPEDIA articles are NPOV and are supposed to have no bias. Please keep that in mind when you edit this article or any others in the future.
This concerns POV tag cleanup. Whenever an POV tag is placed, it is necessary to also post a message in the discussion section stating clearly why it is thought the article does not comply with POV guidelines, and suggestions for how to improve it. This permits discussion and consensus among editors. This is a drive-by tag, which is discouraged in WP, and it shall be removed. Future tags should have discussion posted as to why the tag was placed, and how the topic might be improved. Better yet, edit the topic yourself with the improvements. This statement is not a judgement of content, it is only a cleanup of frivolously and/or arbitrarily placed tags. No discussion, no tag.Jjdon (talk) 23:41, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
Manuel Haters
[edit]Listen, this is an encyclopedia. If you want to vent your anger, go post them on a message board, blog, or call some radio show, but don't put POV statements in Wikipedia. Remember everything is supposed to be sourced.
World Series 2008
[edit]Someone needs to write a more in depth section on the Phillies 2008 season and world series title, right now its pretty pathetic. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.175.198.103 (talk) 22:33, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Managerial Record
[edit]I undid the removal of the record table. If folks disagree, that's fine. I'm not trying to monopolize. I do, however, wish to register my objection. First, look at the majority of coaching pages in general: not only do they have record tables, most have seen people add such tables recently--steps I strongly support. I think it's great information to have and look at. I can understand how such tables can visually dominate the article, but Charlie Manuel simply has not been manager long enough for that to be a problem (if it were, one might create a separate article to house it). Also, myself and others have taken steps to ensure that such tables are not visually overwhelming by adding such things as color coding, double thick lines, and descriptions. I welcome other comments, but must register my own opinion. It is doing a disservice tot he article to remove this information. EATC (talk) 01:00, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
- The consensus at WT:MLB has been to remove statistical tables from player articles because they are becoming substitutes for prose. The pertinent information in the table should be available in the prose or, if it's not, should be made available as such. I am going to remove the table again per the established consensus. KV5 (Talk • Phils) 01:14, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
Boy, consensus just must not mean what it used to. Look at MLB managers' pages...how many of them have that exact table? Why stop there? Look at football coaches, basketball, hockey, even college! Nevertheless, as I stated, my intention was not to start a war, and certainly not to "substitute for prose". Therefore, I have come up with a compromise. EATC (talk) 01:44, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
Where is this general consensus? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dcripe (talk • contribs) 03:46, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
- Consensus the first, the second, and the third. — KV5 • Talk • 12:25, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
Japan Ball
[edit]I removed the section labeled Headgeared Helmet and incorporated the information into the narritative of Manuel's time in Japan. The beaning seems more important than just the fact that Manuel came back quickly with guts and determination. I added enough detail place the event in the context of Japanese baseball at the time. wwhitlock (talk) 23:50, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
Eskin
[edit]I removed the Howard Eskin confrontation. No other manager lists confontations (Earl Weaver, Lou Pinella?) so why is this relevant for Charlie? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.98.16.109 (talk) 10:16, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
- Just because "no other manager lists confrontations" is no reason that they shouldn't be included (see also WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS). If the other managers' articles were complete and fully referenced, they would likely list this information too. If there are reliable sources supporting the information about the conflict, then there's no reason why it shouldn't be included in the appropriate section. — KV5 • Talk • 11:53, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
One big reason it shouldn't be included is that the anecdote adds nothing, sets up nothing, goes nowhere and is ultimately pointless. I actually came to this page to find out why it even exists, and come to find out it's been removed and then for some reason put back, which is inexplicable. For the Eskin reference to be in there you might as well list every comment ever made in a press conference. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.55.38.21 (talk) 03:02, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
Hispanic heritage?
[edit]I understand that it may only be 1/4 or 1/8 but the coal fields of Western Virginia and West Virginia had a sizable Hispanic immigration during the turn of the 20th century. Is this the origin of Manuel's last name? What is Manuels ethnicity makeup? Thanks. Market St.⧏ ⧐ Diamond Way 19:13, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
