Gold Cup winners Prices ?
[edit]Could somebody put in the winning Prices (betting price) - as they are in "other" Thoroughbred race horse "tables" on Wiki. I remember Norton's Coin was 100/1 !! Will we ever see another 100/1 winner of the Cheltenham Gold Cup ? the Olympic Gold medal of National Hunt (steeple chase) Racing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.149.49.174 (talk) 09:43, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
- We normally only put in SPs for handicap races. I'll put it up as an item for discussion at WP:Horse Racing. --Bcp67 (talk) 11:22, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
Pathe footage 1924
[edit]Are we sure that's the 1924 Gold Cup? The winner seems to win by a lot more than a head and a neck. Tigerboy1966 21:17, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
- Certainly doesn't seem to bear much resemblance to the "sustained three-way struggle" described in Red Splah's article! --Bcp67 (talk) 21:53, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
- There's also considerably more finishers than the nine runnners who started the 1924 race --Bcp67 (talk) 21:57, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
- Will try to find another source. Where's the footage so I can take a look please ? Maok3 (talk) 17:44, 24 March 2016 (UTC)
- It's here [1] - probably footage from the 1924 meeting but not the actual Gold Cup itself --Bcp67 (talk) 20:55, 24 March 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks. Looking now the Foxhunters is a strong possibility but not certain. In it there were 13 declared runners(in the footage around 1 minute mark I've counted 14-15) and exactly 10 finishers(the footage shows 11 but there was riderless horse among the last runners). The race description for the last part is "Cryptical joined Fairy Hill II three fences from home, and held a slight lead until the last jump when Fairy II took the command and won easily by a length and half; a bad third".[1] It almost adds up except on the footage it shows the third only 4-5 lengths away and the winning jockey on the turn for home shows some skills beyond amateurship level. Just a suggestion but is it possible that the shots are from separated races put together in a single video for that preview? Their video description after all is: "Various shots of horses jumping over a fences" The horse on the turn for home and the one being led through the crowd might very well be Red Splash but the other two montages must be from other races. 1964 + 1965 Course distances
[edit]"In the 1965 Gold Cup – which following course realignment was run over a distance of 3 miles 2 furlongs 76 yards, 54 yards shorter than in 1964 – he faced 3 opponents, as he had done the previous year".[2] Mobile mundo (talk) 19:37, 18 April 2016 (UTC)

Festival Gold error
[edit]It looks like a good source and has a lot of good information but Festival Gold:Forty Years Of Cheltenham ISBN 0 7524 2817 9 first published in 2003 spells Pat Taaffe with 1 f throughout. The book gives results from the Cheltenham Gold Cup 1963 to 2003 The jockeys surnames and first letter of forename are in the results as well as the ages & weight of the horses. The distances are not mentioned in the results table & only the winning trainer & breeder are mentioned. It also gives the usual race details. Is it a good source?
