– Primary topic per pageviews, and also long-term notability. An NHL team, even a short-lived one, is primary ahead of minor-league teams. 162 etc. (talk) 19:12, 19 January 2025 (UTC) — Relisting. Reading Beans, Duke of Rivia 11:29, 27 January 2025 (UTC) — Relisting. TiggerJay(talk) 07:15, 4 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose: I disagree. The AHL Barons led the league in championships at the time of its dissolution, had a history of over forty years, and has just as many Google cites and more News cites. Two years of top-flight doesn't by definition override four decades of play. Ravenswing 21:09, 19 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Is lede still correct with the closure of the Arizona Coyotes?

[edit]

I am admittedly not an NHL expert, but isn't the lede incorrect given that the Arizona Coyotes ceased operations? My understanding is that the Utah Hockey Club wasn't a move of the franchise, but rather that the Coyotes ceased operations and the Hockey Club was added as a new team. Happy to be corrected on this but shouldn't As of 2025, the Barons remain the last franchise in the four major North American sports leagues to cease operations be removed or reworded? 🌸wasianpower🌸 (talk • contribs) 20:57, 24 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

In similar vein, wouldn't the Browns to Baltimore be considered a ceasing of operations, at least for the short term? Esb5415 (talk) (C) 13:31, 28 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Regardless, we need reliable sources to say that the Barons aren't the most recent franchise to cease operations. Otherwise, we are engaging in original research. Esb5415 (talk) (C) 13:42, 5 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Right now the Coyotes are classified as an "inactive" franchise (sort of in a state of limbo, you could say) rather than defunct. Some in the area are still hoping to revive the franchise in a few years. Iowamutt (talk) 01:23, 9 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
"...the last franchise, in the four major North American sports leagues, to cease operations..." ...in Ohio.
Makes more sense this way. Still a horrible sentence. 24.213.209.106 (talk) 13:49, 28 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
