Capitalisation of "D'Entrecasteaux"

There may be questions about whether D’Entrecasteaux should be written with a lowercase d mid-sentence (d’Entrecasteaux), following French conventions for surnames with particles such as de or d’. However, in English-language usage, and particularly for proper nouns such as geographical place names, it is standard practice to capitalise the entire proper name regardless of original French styling.

Examples include D’Urville Island, De Gaulle Airport, and Le Corbusier, all of which retain capitalisation for their particles in English usage. This convention reflects English capitalisation norms, not French grammar.
