Remove the following line from the article:

"They are of Shudra status in the Hindu caste system.[7][8][9][10] However, they use the Devanga Purana, a text sacred to the Devangas, to claim Brahmin status, despite having a non-Brahmin profession.[11][12] They replaced their native local gotras with Sanskritic gotras.[13]"

Reason for removal: This statement lacks sufficient clarity and citation, potentially leading to misunderstandings or misrepresentations of the group’s status in relation to caste. The claim about their assertion of Brahmin status and use of Sanskritic gotras may require additional reliable sources to support or contextualize it more effectively. The phrasing could be seen as problematic without a clearer explanation or context from authoritative sources. Vinothksoms (talk) 13:11, 8 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Despite that argument, Various Hindu sacred texts, including the Bhagavad Gita, Tirumurai, and the teachings of the Bhakti saints, have emphasized the rejection of caste-based discrimination, advocating for spiritual equality and devotion over birth-based divisions and therefore caste-based ranking or sectoring is not in line with the egalitarian values presented in these scriptures. According to Wikipedia's policies, such as Neutral Point of View (NPOV) and No Original Research, content should reflect a balanced and verifiable presentation of ideas. Discriminatory identification based on caste contradicts these principles, as it is not supported by the majority of Hindu texts and is inconsistent with the inclusive spirit of modern Hindu reform movements. reason for removel: Devanga people are not sudras. they are prakrut brahmin. they have the right to wear the sacred thread. they perform Upanayanam. as per hindu varna only brahmin,Kshatriyas and vaishyas have the right to wear sacred thread. during british raj devanga people suffered so much. their profession which is weaving and trading fell to the bottom. they couldnt even afford a single meal and they wear fleeing from their homes. that is when they began to eat meat. still many devangas are pure vegetarians. Origin and culture The caste claims to be descended from Devala, an ancient Hindu sage.[5] They originated from Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, and during the reign of the Vijayanagara Empire they migrated to Tamil Nadu.[6] They are of Shudra status in the Hindu caste system.[7][8][9][10] However, they use the Devanga Purana, a text sacred to the Devangas, to claim Brahmin status, despite having a non-Brahmin profession.[11][12] They replaced their native local gotras with Sanskritic gotras.[13]

NOTE: the above lines from the article is not true.

Reason: Devanga people are not sudras. they do upanayanam(sacred thread) only brahmins,Kshatriyas and vaishyas has the right to wear it. Infact devanga people are prakrut brahmins. Devanga people are also called deva brahmana. they worship ramaling sowdeswari which is another name for Goddess chamundeswari. meat eating habit only came to them during british raj. when east india company destroyed indian weaving communites. Devanga people fled to different parts in india. during their escape they began to eat meat because they couldnt afford a good vegetarian meal. nowadays many devanga people are pure vegetarians. so calling them sudras is an insult to their rich history.
