israel participation at risk

To summarise: Something is propsed to happen, which could lead to something happening, which in turn could lead to a withdrawal. Classic EurovisionFun rumour-milling! IceWelder [] 17:03, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Should we add the possibility it could happen as a note in the participating countries list? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eurovision1323 (talkcontribs) 14:00, 25 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

WP:CRYSTAL is pretty clear on this. There are several different potential outcomes to this process, and it is not our place to speculate how this might impact Eurovision 2025. It may be appropriate to add something to Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 as and when things are verified, but until something actually impacts Eurovision itself, then this is not the place to add this information. Liechtenstein confirmed non participation

[edit]

Liechtenstein should be added to non-participating countries https://esctoday.com/196812/liechtenstein-1-fl-tv-will-not-debut-at-eurovision-2025/ TheBest1234567 (talk) 12:08, 7 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

There is no need to mention that a country that has never taken part, continues to not take part. Grk1011 (talk) 00:03, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
1 FL TV is not an active member of the EBU, thus it is not eligible to participate, so there is nothing to say. Ferclopedio (talk) 12:35, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Dobro došli

[edit]

In Serbo-Croatian, the terms "Dobrodošli" and "Dobro došli" have similar but different meanings:

  • Dobrodošli - Adjective suggesting that something (plural) or someone (plural) would be well received or is welcome
  • Dobro došli - A greeting, meaning welcome

In the context of the song, Nina sings "Welcome to the play about love" and "Welcome to the hotel of my weaknesses", indicating that "Dobro došli" is the correct spelling. In secondary sources, a mix of both spellings is used, as well as in RTCG sources:

I would therefore suggest that we adopt "Dobro došli" as the spelling used, as both names are recognisable, but only one is grammatically correct in the song's context — IмSтevan talk 13:11, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No issues, will change to this spelling soon Pdhadam (talk) 14:54, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I fully disagree with this. The song was introduced by RTCG and the Montesong organisers as "Dobrodošli", and has been introduced by the EBU with exactly the same spelling on eurovision.tv. On all streaming platforms, the song is called "Dobrodošli". As Wikipedia editors, we can't just 'decide' to change the name of a song, whether its grammatically correct or not. Tomls10 (talk) 17:38, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As I demonstrated, it's been introduced both as "Dobro došli" and as "Dobrodošli". We do change song titles quite often. For examplee when somebody releases a title in all caps or all lower cases, we adhere to the title's language's rules regarding capitalisation of song titles. We didn't title ZARI, TiTAN, SAND or ZORRA in such fashions despite those being the titles on streaming and Eurovision's official website — IмSтevan talk 17:50, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't believe that the two situations are comparable. Capitalisation of article titles relates to Wikipedia's Manual of Style (specifically MOS:TMCAPS and MOS:TMSTYLE); this is why we have the "stylised as" part within the article of the songs. This does not appear to be a stylisation issue, given that both cases are written in sentence case, so therefore I believe the most common spelling should be used, which appears to be the spelling without spaces, even if this is not "grammatically correct" per your explanation. Sims2aholic8 (talk) 19:03, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'd also like to point out that there doesn't always have to be a link between the song title and the lyrics. There have been several songs given a certain title where that title doesn't even appear in the lyrics, including many Eurovision songs. While I completely understand that within the lyrics "dobro došli" would be the correct transcription, that doesn't mean the song title has to be reflective of this. @Toffeenix and Pdhadam: Also pinging because of our conflicting edits — IмSтevan talk 13:13, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies for changing the page without seeing this discussion! It wasn't my intention to circumvent any decisions made here. Adding my opinion on this topic here now. The majority of sources that I can see on this lists the song as "Dobrodošli". That's what RTCG uses on their website, how the song was displayed during Montesong (the title on the YouTube video upload appears to contradict the on-screen graphic used the spelling without the space), and what the EBU are using for the song title. It's also the spelling used on streaming platforms. I believe that we should be using the version of the spelling that is most prevalent, which is the spelling without spaces. It's not our place to decide the "correct" spelling here, and I think doing lyrical analysis etc. to come to a decision here when this isn't backed up by the majority of sourcing would be a contravention of WP:OR. Sims2aholic8 (talk) 18:55, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Appreciate being pinged in here, thanks. Mostly agree with Sims on this, as far as I can tell the title is generally written as "Dobrodošli" for the time being - even if "Dobro došli" might make more sense grammatically and lyrically we've had this with Discoteque, arguably Maps, Prty Till the End of the World (Prty? Really?) etc. Agree on MOS only covering caps on this as far as I'm aware (some other stuff too like Superg!rl but I don't think it's quite the same). Toffeenix (talk) 23:16, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Adding that Nina has now clarified the title: https://rtcg.me/montesong/637896/ljudski-gest-grupe-neonoen-predstavicu-na-najbolji-nacin-crnu-goru.html '"The song is called 'Dobrodošli', as an adjective. The title refers to those people who are welcome. It is not a greeting," Žižić explained.' I did not realise Nina reads Wiki talk pages in her spare time but hi Nina if you're reading this Toffeenix (talk) 02:19, 10 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
