Surely the entire topic of statistical weighting cannot be simply be ignored by saying it's more commonly applied to light etc. Really? I came here to understand statistical weighting not understand frequencies and 3d modeling.
Agreed looking for the market research use of weighting. --Bpatton (talk) 13:48, 8 June 2011 (UTC)
It would be nice if this page also discussed weighting by probability. Awaterl (talk) 07:07, 23 February 2012 (UTC)
- The article definitely needs reorganized, and there should be a section on weighted probabilities.
- Also, I came to this article looking for https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weighted_arithmetic_mean, but it's not in [see also] or [external links].
- So, the new outline would be:
- [introduction]
- 1 [section for weight probabilities]
- 2 [sections for weighting signals and waves]
- 2.1 Weighting and loudness
- 2.2 Weighting in audio measurement
- 2.3 Weighting and gamma rays
- 2.4 Weighting and television colour components
- 2.5 Weighting and UV factor derivation for sun exposure
- 3 See also

Undue weight
[edit]For an article on weighting, it's kind of ironic that it suffers from undue attention -- i.e., weighting -- to some very specific uses of the term. It's a general concept in data analysis -- the times I hear it most is in regards to polling data -- zeroing in on some very technical uses does NOT help the general reader. Quite the opposite. --Calton | Talk 13:46, 11 March 2021 (UTC)
Suggest renaming this page to "Frequency Weighting (Spectral analysis)" or expand to other usage of the term "Weighting"
[edit]The term "weighting" is a very broad term used in many different field and extensively in statistics. This articles occupies this space and is exclusively focused on a very specific form of weighting despite its broad name. Even the term "Frequency Weighting" is ambiguous as statistical weights can alter the "frequency" i.e., counts of the data. Statfix55 (talk) 15:27, 2 June 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for bringing your suggestion here. My preference is to rename this article (your suggested name seems fine) and start a new one with a broader scope. Dondervogel 2 (talk) 16:59, 2 June 2025 (UTC)
- That sounds good to me. I'll make the move to a "Frequency Weighting (spectral analysis)" Statfix55 (talk) 14:25, 4 June 2025 (UTC)
