Mentioning the etymology of Glenmore / Gleann Mór

[edit]

Hi all! I only recently realized that anyone could edit Wikipedia, and - as the proud recipient of a PhD in Celtic Studies - I've gone on a bit of a spree trying to insert the correct Irish and Scottish Gaelic etymologies of relevant words. Unfortunately, having never edited Wikipedia before, I've been quite slapdash: I had hoped that other people could come citing in my wake, but it seems that the go-to response has been pruning - which I suppose is only fair, but which has still been a disappointment.

I thought for a while about whether adding the etymologies was worth the effort of learning how to properly interface with the website, and I've finally decided it is, although I'm quite technophobic, and tend to have trouble mastering these sorts of these things.

In that spirit, I've now made a Wikipedia account, and would like to cite the following dictionary entries (bottom of post) as evidence that the placename 'Glenmore' is originally derived from the Irish gleann mór, meaning 'big valley'.

So my questions are:

1) Would citations to the dictionary be considered sufficient evidence of that point, according to Wikipedia's internal standards?

and

2) How do I go about adding the citations?

I tried to speak directly to the user who undid the edits, but their talk page is currently locked, so help from anyone at all would be most welcome.

Gun robh mìle math agaibh! (Many thanks!)
