- ... that Greenland is not an independent country though it is the biggest island? Source: https://denmark.dk/people-and-culture/greenland

Weight of Sheet Ice Affecting Geography
[edit]The claim that "the weight of the ice sheet has depressed the central land area to form a basin lying more than 300 m (980 ft) below sea level" seems to be spurious and is not supported by the more current source provided. The DK Atlas cited does mention this claim but is contradicted by the article on the Grand_Canyon_(Greenland) page, which mentions that the canyon is believed to predate the ice sheet and is corroborated by more current sources. I believe this sentence should be removed and a section should be added discussing Greenland's Grand Canyon in its place. Struckweather (talk) 15:38, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
- I’ve reworded that part of the article based on 2020 articles.
- GeoScienceWorld journal which ABC News then wrote about which should be enough to pass the WP guidelines.
- Can you read the updated version and tell me what you think? ThatGuyOnline (talk) 17:22, 19 November 2024 (UTC)

'Greenland is a North Atlantic territory...' etc. NOT a 'North American' territory. It is part of Denmark! (Whatever Donald Trump would like you to to believe.) If this doesn't change, you've seen the last donation from me. 2.27.234.59 (talk) 22:52, 25 December 2024 (UTC)
- Not done: The citation for the "North American autonomous territory of [..] Denmark" is from Denmark's official government website. After a quick search, this doesn't seem disputed - but if there are reliable sources that support the alternate descriptor, please provide them. FifthFive (talk) 00:26, 26 December 2024 (UTC)
- Promises, promises! If you have a competing RS, bring it to the table. 2603:6080:2100:5674:7DDF:CB12:F1AE:56AA (talk) 03:21, 7 January 2025 (UTC)
Undue weight about Norse disappearance
[edit]Why is this extremely detailed text in a general article about Greenland? It belongs in the specific article about the history of the Norse Greenlanders.
"Other explanations of the disappearance of the Norse settlements have been proposed: Lack of support from the homeland. Ship-borne marauders (such as Basque, English, or German pirates) rather than Skrælings, could have plundered and displaced the Greenlanders. They were "the victims of hidebound thinking and of a hierarchical society dominated by the Church and the biggest land owners. In their reluctance to see themselves as anything but Europeans, the Greenlanders failed to adopt the kind of apparel that the Inuit employed as protection against the cold and damp or to borrow any of the Inuit hunting gear." That portion of the Greenlander population willing to adopt Inuit ways and means intermarried with and assimilated into the Inuit community. Much of the Greenland population is mixed Inuit and European ancestry. It was impossible in 1938 when Stefansson wrote his book to distinguish between intermarriage before the European loss of contact and after the contact was restored. "Norse society's structure created a conflict between the short-term interests of those in power, and the long-term interests of the society as a whole."" FunkMonk (talk) 18:04, 5 January 2025 (UTC)
- I don't see how that is undue at all. It is reasonably short, and an important part of the history of Greenland. Jeppiz (talk) 14:05, 7 January 2025 (UTC)
- Agreed. A population, perhaps especially one of European origin, disappearing from a large territory is a rather rare thing in history, and worth a bit of detail. Or are you disagreeing with what is said? Johnbod (talk) 18:00, 7 January 2025 (UTC)
- Not undue, per points above. Carlstak (talk) 18:35, 7 January 2025 (UTC)
Donald Trump
[edit]On 8 January Trump said he could not guarantee that economic or military coercion would not be needed to take over the territory.[1][2] His son Donald Trump was visiting the territory at the time.[3] I'd suggest that this is quite a significant departure from just offering to buy it, and has attracted widescale negative reaction. Martinevans123 (talk) 18:34, 8 January 2025 (UTC) p.s. Panama Canal has a whole dedicated section!
- if he acts on it then it will be noted. Donald Trump already appears in the history section, no need to add every mention of a country to their Wikipedia page. 2603:7000:9600:1A2D:8CBA:4C56:2870:E869 (talk) 00:36, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
- It prompted a rapid response from Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen: "Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders," says Danish PM as Donald Trump Jr. arrives. Martinevans123 (talk) 08:39, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
- Be sure to mention any newly proposed names for Greenland: Red White and Blue Land? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jidanni (talk • contribs) 13:55, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, and that bear might just get replaced by an elephant. Martinevans123 (talk) 14:01, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
- This is Donald Trump we're talking about. He'd want to name it "Trumplandia" in his honor, and replace the polar bear on the coat of arms with a big gold "T".;-) Carlstak (talk) 20:06, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
I'm surprised there is now no mention of Trump (or Trump Jr) anywhere in the main body of the article. It seems all the latest detail is at Proposals for the United States to purchase Greenland. Martinevans123 (talk) 17:40, 10 January 2025 (UTC)
