[edit]I've read Kinch was considered the finest test pilot of his generation. Is it true he was black? (I confess ignorance...) Is a pic available? Trekphiler 00:04, 6 December 2005 (UTC)
Black? I'm wondering if you're thinking of the fictional character of Ivan Kinchloe from TV's Hogan's Heroes (potentially a tribute to the real Kincheloe)? Greg Salter 16:59, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
- Hogan's Heroes' Sgt. Kinchloe a tribute to Iven Kincheloe - that's a hoot! Seriously, the introduction states that he was a double ace (10 kills) in Korea, but later the article says he downed 5 MiG-15s during the conflict (which would "just" make him an ace, unless he downed five aircraft that weren't MiG-15s which would seem unlikely. Checking other sources, it appears the five kill total is correct, so the lead paragraph needs to be corrected. Jmdeur (talk) 18:44, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
- The Hogan's Heroes character was from Detroit, Michigan... worth checking!--Paul McDonald (talk) 21:49, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

- The character in Hogan's Heroes was Staff Sergeant _James_ Kinchloe, played by Ivan Dixon. 2001:56A:FA85:3800:A59D:35B3:F809:ED1 (talk) 05:30, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

- Mention of "The Right Stuff" made me think of Gus Grissom's middle name. I'm guessing all traces of Ivan will soon disappear. -- Jeandré, 2007-06-25t17:59z

Help! Difficulty sharing this page address (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iven_Carl_Kincheloe_Jr.)
[edit]I frequently use Wikipedia pages as "For more information:" for a Facebook history page I host.
The address for this Wikipedia page has a period at the end (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iven_Carl_Kincheloe_Jr.). That period drops off when it is hyperlinked and the page redirects to (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iven_Carl_Kincheloe_Jr) without the period. The redirected page is an invalid page.
Can someone help correct this? If so, please explain how to do this in case I encounter it again. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lifeasgijoe (talk • contribs) 00:24, 26 July 2018 (UTC)
- @Lifeasgijoe: I've created a redirect at Iven Carl Kincheloe Jr, so hopefully you can link to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iven_Carl_Kincheloe_Jr now. Please let me know if that works or not. - BilCat (talk) 08:55, 26 July 2018 (UTC)
- @BilCat: It worked. Thanks. I usually only add or correct information on Wikipedia. The "coding", including redirecting are beyond my skills. Thanks, again. Lifeasgijoe (talk) 09:27, 26 July 2018 (UTC)
- You're welcome. - BilCat (talk) 00:27, 27 July 2018 (UTC)
Mach 3
[edit]This article claims that Mel Apt was the first pilot to reach Mach 3 on the flight when he crashed. However, given that the speed of sound decreases with altitude, and Kincheloe reached speeds in excess of 2,000 mph at altitude, is it possible that Kincheloe, not Apt, ought to be given credit for the first flight at or above Mach 3? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.71.166.188 (talk) 04:58, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
