suggest in section regarding bills sponsored and cosponsored by Vice President Elect Vance to also cite the number of bills co-sponsored in the Tallahassee Democrat article (https://www.tallahassee.com/story/news/politics/2025/01/07/jd-vance-name-changes-how-old-marine-vet-hillbilly-elegy-netflix-usha/77504596007/) TheFactualist (talk) 07:55, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

This information is already in the first paragraph under Tenure ("sponsored 57 legislative bills", "co-sponsored 288 bills") so what is it you are seeking to add? Is it just to add the Tallahassee Democrat as a reference? LizardJr8 (talk) 17:26, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I want to change the main photo of JD Vance to his new Vice Presidential portrait. I think this cropped version would be best (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:VancePortrait(cropped).jpg). Thank you! BrendonUrie4 (talk) 21:19, 16 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like this image has been nominated for deletion. Not really a good idea to fulfil this request until we find out the outcome of that. Oh, and also, here's the correct link (without a closing bracket at the end): https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:VancePortrait(cropped).jpg MadGuy7023 (talk) 21:57, 16 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Not done. No evidence that this image has been released under a free licence. -- zzuuzz (talk) 01:14, 17 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It is now the official portrait for JD Vance on WhiteHouse.gov 6218946rr (talk) 18:06, 20 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That does not matter. The White House cannot steal the copyright from a private photographer. -bɜ:ʳkənhɪmez | me | talk to me! 18:22, 20 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sending this proposal to ask if i can edit the page of Vice president-elect JD Vance
as a result of Vance getting elected as vice-president of the United States
i want to help Wikipedia with editing his article since i started my account in September but there is a problem i'm not an extended-confirmed user or administrator and because of this i can't edit it and since i want to help with editing it
im proposing the possibility for me to edit this article.

that's all for now, have a good day. MalborkHistorian (talk) 17:14, 18 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Not done... Edit requests must be in the format of "Change X to Y", they are not the place to ask for additional permissions, try WP:PERM. - Adolphus79 (talk) 18:07, 18 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Surname: Vance/Hance

[edit]

Please do a thorough check and confirm the surname 'Vance' which could be 'Hance'.

Also, please confirm and do the same with the surname 'Bowman' which could be 'Borman'.

Thank you. Shellsjsmd1 (talk) 13:53, 20 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

change the portrait!!

[edit]

it is now public domain. Hexonite (talk) 18:53, 20 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

No, it is not. Nobody, not even the President, can "steal" copyright from a private photographer. The private photographer has explicitly stated that he does not wish the images to be public domain. -bɜ:ʳkənhɪmez | me | talk to me! 18:55, 20 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
if that's the case, the portrait should be removed from donald trump's page CMBGAMER 2018 (talk) 19:05, 20 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
"steal"?? it's not me that said it is "public domain". it's wikipedia that does so, AND even the deletion of the images has been suspended. Hexonite (talk) 19:07, 20 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The deletion was suspended by an admin who made the same mistake you did. License laundering is explicitly prohibited by Commons policy. This is a textbook case of license laundering. The image was confirmed to be copyrighted by the photographer, and so it is against Commons policy to "launder" it by using the fact it was posted on another website as its copyright status. -bɜ:ʳkənhɪmez | me | talk to me! 19:09, 20 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Portrait Change

[edit]

In my opinion the portrait should be changed to this : File:J.D Vance Official portrait.jpg

if you want to edit the information on it it then you can. MalborkHistorian (talk) 20:12, 20 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Support - just for any future disagreements for this common-sense change. JParksT2023 (talk) 20:22, 20 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Comment - Hopefully we can change it, when the official veep image is available. GoodDay (talk) 16:57, 21 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oh my goodness the photo is so bad 😭. I'm not sure of Wikipedia's policy on this but are we required to keep a photograph as the infobox portrait just because it is the most recent official one? The 2023 one isn't really all that old and looks so much better. EytanMelech (talk) 18:38, 21 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
For now, I'd use the 2023 image. GoodDay (talk) 21:14, 21 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
We're not required, but it's traditional, and consistently doing so where possible can be seen as a helpful "rule." Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 21:36, 21 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

“Has served” as 50th VP?

[edit]

Shouldn’t this read “is serving”? I don’t get this. HockeyCowboy (talk) 20:31, 20 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Since changes to "...serving as..." GoodDay (talk) 16:19, 21 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I prefer “is serving”. – Muboshgu (talk) 16:37, 21 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
There's already an "is" in the sentence. I changed it from "has served as" to "serving as". BBQboffingrill me 03:05, 28 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
"has served" is a grammatical trick some users use to make it easy to change when they leave office. You just remove the "has" when their term is up. TulsaPoliticsFan (talk) 03:09, 28 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That's years from now, and we shouldn't make things more confusing just for convenience. Wikieditor662 (talk) 03:53, 28 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Typo

It says "during his four year of service...". I believe it should say "fourth" 46.5.255.137 (talk) 21:35, 21 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I meant to write "During his four years of service". I think that's the correct sentence. 46.5.255.137 (talk) 21:37, 21 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
