Playing in Dictatorships

[edit]

It needs to be noted that Julie has willingly chosen to play in a dictatorship which has taken away democracy and rights of the local people. This needs to be noted in her record as a note of her values as not many folk singers would choose profit before human rights. She may choose to make political statements while in Thailand to support the people. If that is the case, that should be noted as well.

Julie Byrne performed in Thailand in 2018, during a time of military rule. While in the country, she chose to focus on connecting with local audiences and using her platform to express solidarity with the people, rather than supporting the government. Julie has been vocal about her opposition to censorship and repressive political systems. She has also pulled out of performances in Germany where funding from the Berlin Senate was tied to policies imposing censorship on Palestinian solidarity efforts. This decision underscores her strong commitment to human rights and freedom of expression, and her refusal to support regimes or policies that compromise these values. 2600:4041:5518:9C00:640B:E88B:1E2E:A383 (talk) 05:49, 27 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
