Did you know nomination

[edit]

  • Source: [1] Kpop4planet invited Melon to attend the Valentine’s Day dance; the company declined because of scheduling conflicts but agreed to meet for a private discussion. That’s when it made the promise to “move all the data to the cloud that does not emit any carbon emissions by 2030,” Lee says.

  • @Vigilantcosmicpenguin: Hook is interesting and cited in the article. Bit of a nitpick, but the cited quote doesn't say the dance was what convinced the company. It incited the discussion, but it wasn't the dance exclusively that led to the change, at least based off the quote and what the quote is implying. A more accurate summation would be something like "...that a planned dance by a group of K-pop fans opened talks with a company to commit 100% renewable energy?" Let me know on this but the hook as it stands is a bit misleading as a result. Magneton Considerer: Pokelego999 (Talk) (Contribs) 17:31, 24 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Pokelego999: Good point, but your hook won't work either, since the source doesn't verify that it "opened talks". The source does make clear that the goal of the dance was to advocate for the change, so maybe this slight change will work:
ALT0a: ... that a group of K-pop fans performed a dance with the goal of convincing a company to commit to 100% renewable energy?

Requested edits February 2025

[edit]

Thanks Vigilantcosmicpenguin for writing this article! The sourcing and writing are both great. I noticed just a few inaccuracies. I have a real-life connection with K4P so instead of editing the article myself, I am making edit requests. Please let me know if you agree, and if you’d like me to make any of the edits.

Lead section

1. Change “In 2022, the group successfully campaigned for Hyundai Motor Company...” to “In 2023, the group successfully campaigned for Hyundai Motor Company...”. The Mongabay source links to a petition that is dated 2023.

2. Change “to receive aluminum created with coal power” to “to purchase aluminum created with power from a new coal power plant”. The issue as described in the sources was that Hyundai's activities would lead to the construction of a new coal plant.

Background and establishment

3. Change " Lee Dayeon, a fan of Exo from Daegu, and Nurul Sarifah, a fan of Aespa from Jakarta" to "Lee Dayeon, a fan of Aespa from Daegu and Nurul Sarifah, a fan of Exo from Jakarta", per one of the already-cited sources.[2]

Campaigns

4. Change " Lee chose to deal with the issue" to "K4P chose to deal with the issue". As the source indicates, this was a Sarifah/Lee decision.

5. Change "Paris Fashion Week 2021..." to Paris Fashion Week 2023..." The existing Vogue source doesn't give a date but a Korea Times article indicates the K4P report on fashion was released in August 2023.

6. The campaign in partnership with Korea Beyond Coal did begin in 2021 so "the same year" should be changed to "in 2021".

7. Change "would be produced with coal energy" to "would be produced with energy from newly-built coal-fired power plants." The issue was that Hyundai's activities would lead to the construction of a new coal plant.

8. Change "termination of the deal the same month," to "termination of the deal the following year." As indicated in the cited Mongabay source, the termination happened at the end of 2023 and was announced in 2024.

Methods

9. Remove "Other activities include tree planting and beach cleaning.[1] The source attributes these activities to Kpop fans but not to K4P.
