suggesting a split due to page size
[edit]I would like to suggest that this article be split due to page size. As of this post, it is roughly 88KB. The guideline at WP:SPINOUT is a good read regarding this issue. Any comments?--Rockfang (talk) 16:32, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- Holy crap.. it is 88kb. I didn't think a list could get that big; and even taking the images out only reduces it to 86kb. If the article's to be split, along what lines would it be done? By century? --G2bambino (talk) 18:12, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- That seems like a logical method to me. I'd suggest copying the intro to each resulting article. The Royal_tours_of_Canada#Transportation, Royal_tours_of_Canada#See_also, and Royal_tours_of_Canada#External_links sections as well. The pictures could each be put on their corresponding articles. The resulting 19th century article might still be a bit big, but at least it won't be 88KB. I suggest waiting a few more days though for additional input before making any changes.--Rockfang (talk) 01:25, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
- UPDATE: I've done the split. I only split out the 20th century. I don't think the other centuries need to be split out yet. I copied over the see also, external links and intro sections over. I decided not to copy over the transportation section. The new article is long enough already.--Rockfang (talk) 01:23, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
- I guess what you've done is okay, though it's a bit wierd to jump from the 19th century to the 21st. All may need a bit of fine tuning (lead, etc.), but it seems good overall. --G2bambino (talk) 00:48, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
Orphaned references in Royal tours of Canada
[edit]I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Royal tours of Canada's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT⚡ 01:34, 13 February 2010 (UTC)
Private retreats
[edit]Should private retreats during an official tour be listed? For example, the Queen stayed in Jasper in the middle of her 2005 trip, and she's possibly going to be spending a day somewhere in Quebec during her upcoming trip.--Ibagli (Talk) 23:13, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
Date notation
[edit]Would it be terribly inconsiderate to change the date notation from Month/Day to Day/Month? Surely that's not only the preferred style used by the Canadian government but also the Commonwealth. Haku8645 (talk) 01:27, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
- See Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (Canada-related articles) for several discussions on this topic. In Canada, month-day format is by far the most common in newspapers, magazines, books, and government publications. However, there are some people who strongly favour day-month format. Any mass change from one format to the other in Canada-related articles is sure to be controversial. If a given article is consistently in one format, I suggest just leave it. Foreign royalty
[edit]The visits of foreign royalty shouldn't be included in this list. 1) These aren't described as "royal tours"; they're "foreign visits" or some such. The term "royal tour" is always used in Canada to refer to tours by members of Canada's royal family. 2) The coverage is incomplete: no visits by foreign kings and queens. 3) The 18th-20th century list doesn't have the same scope and likely won't (it would be quite an effort to source all the visits of foreign royalty to Canada over 300 years). --Ħ MIESIANIACAL 07:20, 21 February 2015 (UTC)
