I suggest adding the pronunciation of her first name, Mayte. I think it's pronounced the same as the word "mighty," but I could be wrong. Hope someone can add the correct pronunciation to the article. Quacks Like a Duck (talk) 02:31, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good idea. I have always pronounced it "My-tay," simply because that's how I first heard it pronounced... I'm not sure if I trust entertainment sites for the pronunciation... maybe I'll try to find Prince himself pronouncing her name somewhere. That's a hard one but I'll put it on my to-do list if it's not resolved by another editor. WDavis1911 (talk) 08:14, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. I'm Spanish, with an average level of English. I think the Spanish pronunciation of Mayte is a bit difficult for English natives. The word has two syllables: the first one is like "my", or the first part (mi) of "mighty". The second is like the letters "te" in the begging of "test", "tell" or "terrible". That's not specially difficult, but probably unsual for English natives (I can't remember any English word finishing with "-te" pronounced like that). Of course this information is absolutelly informal, I'm not a linguistic at all. Anyway, whenever I've heard Mayte speaking in Spanish, she did it with a strange accent resulting of the mixture of Southamerican Spanish and American English (so probably she doesn't pronounce her name in perfect Spanish).
And to finish with, Prince doesn't pronounce Mayte's name badly when he's singing. You can hear it in The One (here you can here it clearly), Style (here is also well pronounced), House Of Brick (Brick House) a marvelous duet of Prince and Mayte or the unreleased song Funky. --El Pantera (talk) 19:02, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There are two articles about this person. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayté_García. HLEdwards (talk) 18:37, 17 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fluency

[edit]

Mayte Garcia has never claimed to be fluent in German. She lived in Germany as a teenager and did put up some of the language in order to be conversational. There is a German interview with the dancer where she speaks partially in German and has an interpreter. 1941wisd0m (talk) 11:04, 5 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Annulment v. Divorcee

[edit]

The article says her marriage to Prince was annulled, then it says they were divorced. The two are completely different. The only way someone's marriage can be annulled and then they can be divorced is if the annulment is purely religious (not civil). There are no references to any sources for either the claimed annulment or divorce. Can someone please explain/clarify/provide references? Thanks.Tinman44 (talk) 19:25, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

According to MN records, Prince and Mayte Garcia were granted a divorce in the year 2000. 1941wisd0m (talk) 11:01, 5 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
