Montauk Highway in Southampton
[edit]What is the official routing of Montauk Highway in Southampton? You have to make 2 turns in order to follow Montauk Highway, but I'm not sure which is official.
First of all, when Montauk Highway enters Southampton from the west, it becomes Hill Street. When it enters Southampton from the east, it becomes Hampton Road. There are at least 2 ways to get from Hill Street to Hampton Road.
1. When travelling east on Hill Street, turn left onto Windmill Lane. Then turn right onto Nugent Street. After crossing Main Street, it becomes Hampton Road.
2. Continue east past Windmill Lane; Hill Street merges into Jobs Lane. Then turn left onto Main Street. Then turn right onto Hampton Road.
Which of these, #1 or #2, is the official routing of Montauk Highway? Or, is neither of them official? Thanks. 68.193.17.157 (talk) 02:16, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
- This issue has been puzzling me for decades. I've seen old signs leftover from the day when New York State Route 27A still ran along the road, but they're not NYS-MUTCD compliant, and I'm not sure how reliable they are. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 21:28, 6 July 2018 (UTC)
